HMD trademarks "Asha", Nokia's former feature phone line

11 January 2018
The application talks about smartphones, so it will be a resurrection of the Asha spirit, not so much the software platform.

t, 12 Jan 2018unfortunately none of this is going to happen. the chicke... moreI agree most of it, that why Microsoft withdraw them self from their W10M, I believe they wanted to reenter the market with more desktop like OS(Andromeda) to solved their apps problem.

Yes, we really need a third mobile OS for budget/semi smartphone, Android at it's current phone, are too heavy resource demanding, Tizen work flawlessly on budget segment, too bad they did not leave their current market. A Asha-like OS is definitely welcome to the market.

Arthur Ho, 12 Jan 2018 wonder what OS will be they running, S30+? Resurrect Symbi... moreunfortunately none of this is going to happen.
the chicken and egg problem cant be solved. And Os fill fail without apps, and developers dont want to write apps for an OS which has no users.
So a new OS, no matter how good will always fail.
too bad. Because Android is bloated garbage. A lean OS like asha phones used is what we need for semi-smart phones

Give me an Asha with a great camera, WhatsApp support and QWERTY and I'll be ok.

The S40 series was a hundred fifty bucks and had a camera on par with iPhones of the day. But you didn't need to worry about dropping them. My C3 lasted five years.

Anyways, Nokia found that inspiration from that movie. So I love it.

I bough one asha phone, Asha 306 in 2013.
It still works, and well, though screen got scratched over time, which slightly messes up with touch.

Nokia bought Smarterphone OS back then which is then used in Asha line up (311, 500, 501).
Then they developed Meltemi which is basically a lite version of MeeGo OS. But killed by Elop.

I wish HMD would give a try to one of these OS. S40 was actually great. It is even had many apps. When S40 got mixed with Smarterphone OS, it is becoming better (with multitasking!).

Lets hope Nokia Asha will not use Android for being something different, optimized for low spec.

But i doubt it. Android Go will be the only option they will use perhaps.

And i missed Dual-layer Polycarbonate (Lumia 620) Or glassed Polycarbonate (Asha 500) they all looked stunning!

wonder what OS will be they running, S30+? Resurrect Symbian? Android go? KaiOS? or fork of Meego OS?

Asha was really good for its price at that time. It even ran whatsapp and it was mt first proper smartphone.

                                        HMD should make non-android phones.
An asha phone with Meltemi selling for 60usd. Was that really so difficult?
