If you're comparing the XA2 Ultra with any phone that isn't 16:9 and with >=6'' screen, then you missed the boat entirely.

The prices seems 50$ more than they should be. They kept it at 299 and 399 but in pounds not dollars.
Could had been really competitive if priced right. Now they will be compared with Samsung A8, S8, and OP 5T and Sony will lose.

- You sure XA2 can record 4K? Sony is really greed to put 4K on their midranges after M5
- Super AMOLED screen is good enough for efficiency, so A8 and XA2 has particular battery life
- Super AMOLED is better than gimmick RGB Matrix
- IP68 is much better. Who needs Oreo updates? As long Nougat just make good performance.
- Wireless charging are future. QNOVO is trash, doesn't make anything good. That's how it works on my XZ.
- No matter how much Sony has on better hardware, it has bad camera ever on smartphones. That's what XZ Premium did.
- This one is better on Sony. One good!
- 500 on A8 is worth the price and XA2 with 350 also worth. Both worth!
I will pick A8 than XA2.

-A8 2018 has larger screen with slightly higher STB Ratio, but XA2 sticks to standard 16:9 ratio
-A8 2018 has slightly more powerful chipset, but XA2 can record both 4K @30fps and 1080p @60fps
-A8 2018 is thinner, but XA2 has larger battery
-A8 2018 has Super AMOLED, but XA2 has RGB matrix
-A8 2018 is IP68 water resistant, but XA2 has Android Oreo out of the box
-A8 2018 has glass back and Qi/Ping Wireless Charging, but XA2 has polycarbonate back Qnovo Battery technologies
-A8 2018 has f1.7 main camera lens, but XA2 has 1/2.3" main camera sensor
-A8 2018 has dual front camera with bokeh, but XA2 has wide angle front camera
-A8 2018 is $500, but XA2 is $350
I personally pick the XA2 over the A8 2018 even though both are out of my price range. The value of the XA2 is still greater than the A8 2018.

But let's get away with XA1 and compare with the more relevant XA1 Plus. Its screen is totally flagship level with high contrast ratio.
MediaTek, it may be, Sony has done a far better job at utilizing it than Nokia (or HMD) with a supposedly "better" SnapDragon chipset.
Now, let's go to battery. Thick it may be, this is all what we've wanted anyway. XA2 has a larger battery than the Nokia 6 2018 despite being of the same size. We're not forgetting the flagship grade 23mp 1/2.3" IMX300 sensor on the back of the XA2, which was once a flagship sensor from Sony.

Except for a bit better camera and 10% bigger battery, there's no reason to shell out 120 more for smaller screen and Redmi note device looking back..
