R, 16 Jan 2018Thanks for your reply, will try doing that and it is singte... moreThe flashtool is capable of downloading regional firmwares from Official Sony Regional Sites that is called Xperifirm/check w/c lists Xperia Models starting from the latest series down to the old models.

It's kinda userfriendly and easy to navigate, but downloading the Firmware will take a while as their size are kinda huge like 2-3GB.

There are guides on the web, or the tool itself links you to one on how to download/flash firmwares.

But a small question, how to be sure that the Firmware i am downloading is not somehow modified without it stating that!!!...
Well maybe I am a bit paranoid but i will try to flash the phone anyway, thanks again.

Anyway you "don't need to root or unlock bootloader" of the phone since you are flashing it with an "OFFICIAL FIRMWARE" from another region that regularly gets updates/upgrades/fixes and since your in GB region, best you flash a firmware on that region or any of your choice except SG/HK as this countries are lazy on updating their phones.

R, 14 Jan 2018It is unlocked phone originated from SG, but what I don't u... moreI see, SG...... Does it come from Singtel/StarHub? You better flash it for another Firmware as SG is notorious at updating firmwares even other phones like Samsung, Huawei, etc.

Good thing it's unlocked, that's coz their lazy and focuses more on adding and maintaining their own bloatwares rather than regular phone security updates/patches, even my friends S8 had been stuck with July Patch before I recently flashed it with another firmware that recieves regular updates, so do what I suggest..... Of course "BACKUP" any important files first.

Anonymous, 14 Jan 2018Where you bought the phobe, SG/HK? Carrier Locked/Unlocked ... moreIt is unlocked phone originated from SG, but what I don't understand is why a said region get a slower update cycle than another, isn't all updates for unlocked phones comes from Sony?!
At the moment I'm located in Germany.

As for your suggestion about flashing another region firmware, thought about it before but unfortunately not possible because there is no official tools and although I do love xda but I don't trust their tools, at least no to modify my main phone.
            Thanks in advance.

[deleted post]At least Android 8.0 Oreo biggest contributor was Sony as they fixed 250 bugs and give their one of their biggest feature on Xperia flagships, LDAC to Google free, but with one twist, it needs to pay royalty to others implied it , and has been featured in another devices such as Samsung and LG itself . Besides, even it's not spread equally in regions, Sony is possibly the only OEM that when you flashed another firmware from other regions, it won't void your warranty of it (mostly are the same with differences). Their updates are mostly stage-rollout as well depends on the country law on update. So, it's much better than no update at all.

Eitherway Sony phones bought from said Countries don't/slow on updating their firmwares, if it's Unlock best you Flash Firmware from another region, say EU/Global Firmware which recieves regular updates...

It's not Sony's fault but your region who sucks at maintaining updates on your phone!!!

Haha my XZ1 dual didn't even get the December update yet and when contacted Sony support through chat the guy on the other side said ask Android(Google) about my update.. first time my love for Sony become threatened... my point is update the flagship phones before pushing updates for mid-range update.
On the other hand Sony GB said on twitter their new update policy for phones is 18 months only, that's where my love came crushing down :(

Kudos Sony and keep moving forward.

July 2017, interesting. I hope they just get this straight to December 2017 or January 2018, and also neglected phones like Xperia M4 Aqua or Z1, but I think it will not happen. Android manufacturers usually abandon their phones completely when they fulfilled their 1 to 2 year update duty.
