well that is a good move. but who is going to guarantee the fact that they won't put in some bloatware or malware which will start working only when you turn off the slow down option and deplete your battery more rapidly and give you the impression that your phone is old enough and needs to be changed. i believe that the tech giants should stop abusing their customers....

MSN57, 18 Jan 2018I've been an iPhone user ever since the iPhone 4s came out ... moreNo worries, fanboys will always buy them. They bought them when this phones were simple slab with a screen attached to it. With verry poor signal quality call quallity and batzery. So they will still buy them now. Apple has allready reated their own zombie to buy their overpriced devices a long time ago.

Anonymous, 18 Jan 2018Why add the ability to turn on/off this feature? Everyone w... moreYes, they do but now if people really want, they can turn on the option that randomly shutdown their phone. But, yep... I definitely will keep the slow down option turned on, that be angrier by shutdowns!
It was good solution, the bad was how they did not tell about it to the customers.
No hopefully the new version tells users that their battery is really bad and they have three options.
              a) buy new battery
              b) slow down the phone
              c) suffer from random shutdowns, but keep the speed

Now customer knows the reason and can chose what to do about it!

I have no hate to Apple or their products and i am Android User..
But any company that pretty much lie to our faces then pour out excuses is a bad company..
We all know that big compaines are greedy ... but when yor wrong just admit it and face the results.

Anonymous, 19 Jan 2018Regardless of the battery related slowdown, newer IOS still... moreMore investigation about what? They covered up stuff from customers, now they are providing what they should've done in the first place - an option.
I know he "have an option" concept is insane for Apple to have (directed at useless fanboys), but I fail to see how any of what happened is bad for the consumers.

At the end of the day, you should not care at all about Apple of Google as companies, just think "is this decision benefiting me as a consumer?" - if it does, then great, if it doesn't - is it bad for me as a consumer? Yes - then stand up to it...if no, then no problem with having it anyway.

Regardless of the battery related slowdown, newer IOS still perform way worse on older devices. They are optimized for newer chipsets and de-optimized for older chipsets. There is definitely more sabotaging going on and Apple are trying to cover it up. More investigation is needed.

Vegetaholic, 19 Jan 2018Well if you treat your devices properly they will last ages... moreCalibrating a new battery is no longer a thing nowadays. What's more, if you like to avoid strain on the battery you should maintain 15-85% battery level, and not do a lot of full cycles. Things are changing, just sayin'

At beginning I discharged completely phone battery and charged to full few times to "warm up" and prepare it to use in full potential, I do this thing with any new phone I get. I never charged my phone just temporarily if I charged I charged to 100% all the time to prevent strain and degradation from to many infrequent charging cycles. To put even more impressive stuff, my sony erricsson xperia play is still on original battery and I have it for 7 years now. Obviously it has not been used a lot since I got S4, but nevertheless this is quality I am talking about. Not crappy iPhone batteries which after 1cyear of abuse gives up.

Sony and motorola remain good after two years

Vegetaholic, 19 Jan 2018Unexpected shutdowns my ass, never seen any phone shutting ... moreHow is your s4 battery doing well after 5 years? My S4 battery degraded pretty fast, and my Note 4 battery degraded within a year of use. It would shut down around 15% and go into bootloop.

Unexpected shutdowns my ass, never seen any phone shutting down unexpectedly because of CPU performance, the only reason phone will shutdown is because of rubbish quality battery or complete degradation which should takes years. My S4 battery is close to 5 years old, and still working perfectly fine without any stupid shutdowns. It's just proves, that Apple used cheaply batteries for iPhone 6 series and apple should be treated as hazardous company for its consumers :)
