21 January 2018
However, many found that the slight refresh to the design didn't go far enough.

They look much better than last year on paper (I preserve my rights to bash any device that claims itself midrange and has a MediaTek SoC, and last year's nonsense was abaurd).

Much better specs indeed, decent processor... I still think the Ultra could've used the SD660 instead of 630. I may not be a fan of the new back though. And I am still sad to see that they did not jump on the OLED train yet. I think it will hurt a lot when a new customer without any brand preferences will compare similar offerings that do offer that technology at that price with similar components too.

In the end, it all comes down to the price to say if they are really good or not at all (XA1U is dang expensive and priced higher than S7 and S8 on contract, categorised as Premium by carriers so it looks bland next to the actual premium devices...)

This is my criticism of the 2018 Xperia midrange line-up: Better, but could be better too.

very happy sony stay with rectangular design. was afraid sony will copy other manufacturers. bought xz premium month ago and I am very pleased with it. replace for my Z2 wich works as new after three years. I willbought XA2 for my wife. love sony, just keep going on. I do not care about bezels, but for those there will be XZ pro soon.

SONY phones are good gadgets. I am still using it's tablet (since 2014) and it's still working problem free.
And design wise it's more original (& not a copy of iPhone )

              Absolutely reliable.

The XA2's launch price is 325$ in Malaysia, while the XA2 Ultra retails for $500 with free goodies. I say the XA2 is worth it.

these phones really feel like Sony wants a piece of the market after a long time of sleep

Im all in with Xperia midrangers if rumors about loosing the headphone jack on the flag one come out to be true...
                    Aint buying jackless phone.
How hard can it be to put another usb C for headphones on a phone?!
                    Hate the trends.

Forget the Sony haters like "opt" and "Skmyd1ck"
These phones are awesome and just about as good as any other mid range offerings like the A8 and A8+ 2018.
Bezels, you may say, they at least put some work on them and you'll probably ignore it the soon you get attached to the phone and use it for a long time.
