JDI creates transparent fingerprint reader

23 January 2018
No need to put this one behind a screen, it's built into the glass substrate of an LCD panel.

u said fp below screen is useless because it would die if the screen is cracked.
    keep changing your mind

Someone told me the Iris scanner and Face detection is the best but actually the side mounted fingerprint sensor is the best then follow by the fingerprint reader beneath the screen is the second runner.

While MicroLED is more superior, it's still very expensive, thus no wide usage, though I would like to see its great power efficiency being properly used in phones. (By that I mean not making battery capacity lower and the phone thinner)

The company was founded in November 1990 as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd and structured as a joint venture between Acorn Computers, Apple Computer (now Apple Inc.) and VLSI Technology.[31][32][33] The new company intended to further the development of the Acorn RISC Machine processor, which was originally used in the Acorn Archimedes and had been selected by Apple for their Newton project. Its first profitable year was 1993. The company's Silicon Valley and Tokyo offices were opened in 1994. Arm invested in Palmchip Corporation in 1997 to provide system on chip platforms and to enter into the disk drive market.[34][35] In 1998, the company changed its name from Advanced RISC Machines Ltd to ARM Ltd.[36] The company was first listed on the London Stock Exchange and NASDAQ in 1998[37] and by February 1999, Apple's shareholding had fallen to 14.8%.[38]

Wikipedia article here. Just like jdi, it was collaboration between 3 companies. Need I say more? Even jdi was with display tech by sharp. Same with arm. It ain't ignorance, it's work done by collaboration, not by a single company..

Anonymous, 24 Jan 2018Please. Meanwhile here you are being one of those sony fans... moreYou see that's why I don't comment on GSMArena. I have laid out some facts, and you answered that in a typical fashion here, calling me a fanboy, rather than bringing some other original argument. I'm not a fanboy of anything, let alone smartphone OEM. There are things I like and dislike about everything in life, but that doesn't mean my preference is "holy grail" and everything else is invalid. However facts are facts despite whether someone likes them or not.
The fact is that people here do like bashing Sony, that's evident, and another fact is that Japanese do think outside the box and steam towards quality and perfection.

AnonD-694886, 24 Jan 2018Yeah, because Sony didn't made 960fps video on phone possib... moreAlright I do agree with what you said about the colours, but partly with power efficiency, as that applies to when black wallpapers and backgrounds are used, however it's nullified when other colours are to be displayed, not to mention with dominant whites (on Nougat and Oreo). There is pixel aging as well, or more specifically individual diodes, which leads to burn in effects and dead pixels. Another thing is lower sharpness due to unequal number of RGB diodes, their arrangement and size.
Now, don't get me wrong, the cons of LCD and Amoled screens have been greatly reduced, and neither of them is bad to the point where you would have to choose one over the other, however my personal preference based on what I know and had is LCD screen at the moment.
The next big thing is MicroLED, or CLEDIS as Sony calls it.

It is expensive to make, it isn't very mature as a technology compared to LCD, but IMO it has more features than LCD does.

That's already one great invention by Sony. Also, power efficiency is better on AMOLED, the color is more vibrant, and the best of all, Always on Display. This is something that IPS can't do, or can be done, but sacrifices a lot of battery.
