Update the interface and interesting, but if it will come limited because of the version of Android, what's the use?
And with security patches, it looks like she's not so exemplary, so ...

Not seeing the catch. Usually a catch implies something bad or something that you don't want in exchange for the thing you do want. All I see from this article is that super old Xiaomi phones are getting the latest OS with all the new features as far as I can tell. The article doesn't mention losing any of the features which by itself is impressive enough. To think an old phone from 2012 could function with the same features as a brand new flagship phone. Maybe the catch is that it won't be nearly as fast? That's kind of given.
Plus they'll get to keep the fairly stable Android Kitkat running underneath it so at least they won't have to deal with all the new bugs and glitches from Nougat and now Oreo? Just thinking about my next android update is making me cringe. Why can't Xiaomi figure out how to ditch android all together? Every time they update the android version MIUI gets screwed up.

God Knows why they are wasting their time, developing a new OS based on old Android Version... Simply waste of Time and Energy. Not Sure how it will change the user experience with this Update. I am having a MiPad 7.9 and not really eager to update it, unless the User Experience is going to be drastically different. A latest version of Android could possible change the user experience instead.

You can backward or add features that you deem necessary. It's basically Kit Kat on steroid and as capable as Oreo. Still, I wonder why they don't update the API level

No new features just Miui 9 😑 no split screen which available only with android N no dual apps though ..No second space Miui is very bulky in 1gb ram
An outdated security patch , google has already stopped pushing security patch for Android 4.4.4 Kitkat security patch only avaliable from Android lolipop 5.0
Even nokia 2 with Snapdragon 212 and 1gb ram got oreo 8.1 update ,xiaomi can update their old phone with stock android 😊
Still its appreciable even 6 years old mi phones getting Even UI updates either other brands don't
Hands off xiaomi

Hats off anyway to Xiaomi. I think due to the lack of support from google and Qualcomm, Xiaomi could not update the OS but they tried their best to give the best service to their customer.

My mom still using this phone and i checked it several times and still very much usable for normal usage (Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Youtube, etc). There's also a lot of roms in xda if we want to upgrade the OS. But in stock miui it's still very usable so i think there's no need to upgrade the OS.
