And it's funny how some people don't think spending $1000 on an iPhone is too much but ask them to pay $1 for an app, they say they'll rather get it free or don't use it at all.

Yes they are getting too expensive but no they didn't point a gun to our head to buy them. Upgrade every 2-3 years and they'll get the hint.

AnonD-59047, 04 Feb 2018They are getting way to expensive but also manufacturers ar... moreAbsolutely agreed. They're reducing actual features while adding gimmicks like 18:9 Displays & Face ID which nobody asked for.

They are getting way to expensive but also manufacturers are stripping us of features while charging more money. Fm radio gone, infrared to act as remote gone, Phones had hdmi for TV out and even removable batteries where the user could just swap out if it got faulty but now everyone is sealing the battery to make the consumer look for a repair shop which is additional cost. Big business cares only about money and not the consumer only finding ways to make us spend more money.

what a surprise beats audiophile dont mind spending 1k on a youPhone ten even when it's going to be crippled in a few months

in my opinion you should use Straw pole, it's much better and simpler. No one needs an hourly breakdown of which option got voted and when. :)

definitely yes but that's not questionable for today's hardware and software, innovation and features, well except if your phone is added with cases designed by known names coz you will be ripped of

phones are definitely getting expensive, yes! but, a modern day 800-1000$ phone can last you 2 to 2.5 years on the hardware side (provided companies dont meddle with the software). and come to think of it, no ones forcing you to buy a new one each year. a snapdragon 835 or apple A11 bionic should work perfectly throughout 2018 without needing any kind of update.

I think there should be debate about the phone size, darn. Most of the latest good phone now requires giant hands.
Lets say 5.5' is already uncomfortable to me, but 5.2' is already perfect even the size difference is small.

expensive hardware with poorly software support. tbh a smartphone OS (android and iOS) bring us all to be hungry about latest OS. before iOS or android OS takeover i think we are always happy with current OS on our old nokia phone, no matter what version of symbian OS we got

Wonder who will be first to do custom built smartphones where you can choose your case/screen/speakers and what inards you would like. like a custom built PC.
That day will come and then gone are the flagships ripping people off.
Place your order wait 2 weeks and it arrives in the post just the way you wanted it.
i would imagine a custom built phone would be more costly at first due to production runs but over time it would come down.
                          Crazy idea? iv heard worse.

It is getting too expensive. The fact that apple is selling less but making more profit proves it. There is no real R&D since all those CPUs are ARM's chips anyways. Their only added customization is how much more cache or how many executing units they wanna take out or add, which ARM's designs already accomodates. Most if not virtually all camera sensors are from Sony (soon Samsung) . The only thing companies pay the most for is marketing.

The phones are getting bigger simply because technology is at its limit in flagship phones so lets make them bigger. people think there getting more for their money. i mean 18:9 screens are nice but a 5.2" or less bezelless 16:9 would be equally as nice.
We are all falling for gimmicks

Thing is, no matter if you buy a cheap or expensive Android mobile phone, you're hardly getting any software updates. Or none at all. This brings us to the topic of redundancy and electronic waste. Smartphone manufacturers throw way too many models out on the market each day, no matter what price range. I would rather see only one budget and one expensive model each year, but with longer operating system updates and support. Apple kinda does it that way, but they don't have any budget models.

i think flagship phones have had to increase in price to make way for higher charges for midrange phones. Galaxy A8 2018 around £500? thats flagship price from not that long ago.

Let all the foolish tech heads pay top whack for the latest phones. These comapnys love them for lining their pockets with profits.
A grand for an iphone x? if it had of been two grand the sheep would still have bought it. Having the latest phone has become like a drug to some people. Companys are really struggling now to come up with something new on a phone but they know they have to because its $$$$. Take the Galaxy s9 thats coming out, it will be close to a grand you can bet when it does and the difference to the galaxy s8 is?????? oh they have put the finger print sensor in the right place and a few tucks n tweaks.
if you have any sence at all, look at the phone you have and the phone your thinking of buying and ask yourself, What does it do that my phone doesnt do? if you can justify that answer go for it but if not dont waste your money.
Put simply technology in a smart phone is not moving quickly enough to justify a new flagship every year at those prices. Think LG might be right with there new approach on launching flagships.
Bring back the plasic flagship and knock me $500's off.
