I really don't want to switch to broadcom (their compilers are one of the most annoying, bypassing even Mediatek. as a developer it's a nightmare)

They are positioned to be... more10 years is a long time and Qualcomm is small and wouldn't survive 2 more episodes like the snapdragon 810 in the coming 10 years so they have to consider all possibilities before making a decision.Plus they also have to consider that the top 3 smartphone companies Samsung, apple and Huawei are not reliant on their chips.

No way they're going to sell out. They are positioned to be THE smartphone chip manufacturer and Broadcom knows this. In 10 years times, it will be worth twice as much...

Please don't do this Qualcomm.. Don't ruin your brand name. You should buy broadcom. Some lame company. I don't buy a phone without qualcomm chipset.
