Thought this update would come with a better memory space. Can't wait for an application to root this desire with 2.3.3 again. I'll go back to ROM's with A2SD

Hey Guys this question might sound stupid bt stil i don get it.. why it is update meant only for developers.. Should other common users hav to wait for OTA update.. Will there be a OTA update. If so, is dere any possiblity tat it has some more options than this update..

How to do a... moreI think paid application needed for complete back up.. but you can do all contacts with a one click of exports to a vcf file. It can be restored later.. regarding sms, you can download SMS backup & restore application, then you can do all at one goal.

for Apps, we have apps but as far as my knowledge, all are paid ones.. you can redownload the apps once you install the Gingerbread..

Its awesome update from my point of view.. previously (Froyo 2.2) has around 140 MB free space on phone to install applications/games (without rooting), now it is around 122 MB only.. every one is thinking in different way by lose of 18MB.. but facts are here..

I have applied android SDK, and moved all the applications to SD card.. previously when I did the same job, the applications are sharing 40% in mobile and rest in SD card. After 2.3 update, most of the application data moved to SD card. Its great feature from my end.. now I installed around 40 apps and big games, still I have 70MB free space in the mobile.

one more example, I am using zzz maps for routing, its total size is around 19MB, in Froyo 2.2 the move to SD card option works to 8 MB and rest in my mobile around 11 MB.
The same thing in Gingerbread (with newly update in HTC desire), which moved 18.7 MB to SD card and only 0.3 MB stays in mobile. By this application I saved around 10.3 MB space in my mobie compared to Froyo.. this is really great update by HTC for desire owners (because we have very limited space for apps), now I am enjoying the Gingerbread update.

In addition to this, little long battery, speed also increased. Great HTC..

dydy, 05 Aug 2011Isn't it true that they even remove the messaging as well, ... moreThis upgrade will not remove SMS/MMS functionality. HTC put out the Disclaimer simply because the upgrade is done entirely by the consumer and thus they cannot guarantee that the consumer is doing everything correctly. But guys, trust me, this upgrade is as simple as 1+1=2, unless you have a power failure during that 15 mins of upgrading process. The only app which I found removed was Facebook, but this can be easily downloaded again from Android Market so there's not much harm done. Have fun!

Since this is not the regular OTA update, how does a branded Desire cannot install 2.3 Gingerbread?

I have already upgraded my dear Desire to Gingerbread and its' running smoothly for 3 days now ( by the way, my device is rooted previously, no need to un-root to do this upgrade ).
Benefits include faster response, faster downloads and installation of apps, more memory space created, and best of all, much better power management ( only about 2% drop every hour ).
Drawbacks are some apps have to be re-installed, so remember to backup whatever important information you have on your device before proceeding.
The place to get this upgrade is : http://developer.htc.com/
Just follow the simple instructions and you'll get it done within 15 mins. Don't worry, I'm not even a tech savvy person to be able to do this on my own.
                                        Have fun!
