takes 5 minutes, the update is very stable and very easy to apply, also you get rid of all the crap that comes with the phone. phone is considerably smoother. Just update what interests you (i did SMS and Contacts) and go for it.

Another Desire owner, 03 Aug 2011At least they're making it available for us Desire users? I... moreThe question was: why are they warning the users.
In this case knowing what you're doing doens't make you an expert.
It's not just about being able to put on the software and being able to use it, it also implies losing your warranty in any case of hardware failure that would have been covered under normal circumstances. Thats why they are making it very clear that this update is meant for developers not users.

So in your view let's call it a simple concept.

just updated 2.3 on my desire, update is just 160 mb,it takes just 10-15 minutes max.

Few apps are missing, like torch, teeter game, these can be downloaded and the memory has been decreased to just 128mb,Restarts if you use Camera sometimes probably due to lack of built in memory,i guess so.

All other things are same, there is no change in HTC sense UI ,wallpapers or live wallpapers.
SMS and MMS is is untouched and Its working fine from 2 days, battery backup is increased to 2 days with heavy usage. If we succeed removing all live wallpapers & few apps, like Google talk,You tube,G mail, which can be installed from market directly on memory card, then it will become More efficient.

                                      i will keep Posting updates

Updated my Orange branded desire through the HTC developers site ,no issues with sms or mms working fine ,does however remove all Orange apps more memory free ,sense UI the same, performance wise looks and feels the same to early for me to notice any major difference.
