Curved screen + thin bezels = lots of accidental touches. But just making the bezel thicker seems like a lazy solution for that problem.

Aspros, 11 Feb 2018My first mobile was Ericsson T28, ever since i was a bezel ... moreT28s was my third mobile. Have never been so happy with a phone, despite using various flagships over the years.

That flip release, triple beeps after logging onto the network...(sigh...)

Aspros, 11 Feb 2018My first mobile was Ericsson T28, ever since i was a bezel ... moreTall screen sucks so 8plus does suck. 16:9 with on screen buttons sucks . So if they do 16:9 and on screen buttons it is definitely bye bye Samsung to me. Only reason why I stick with Samsung was the buttons. As the stupid bar is not taking space of my app window. But 18:9:5 is a brilliant idea to keep the app space and add the buttons to the screen. I just really hate the fingerprint scanner on the back. I no longer use it and switch back to a pin and Iris which is not that fast

My first mobile was Ericsson T28, ever since i was a bezel freak. This became especially important as mobiles started to grow in dimensions and became multimedia monsters, so it is now essential to have the biggest screen you can, for the brick you are carrying.
Small bezels are off extreme importance for me, maybe too much, but as this smth that takes part in my final decision for more than a decade, i be noticed more details along the way. As far as my personal ergonomics are concerned, i have difficulties operating a device with one hand, when it's wider than 75mm with it's case so i am aiming to a maximum of 72-73.5mm width.
As a power user, it has to be a mobile with a great battery, at least 85h by the gsmarena standards, this need is more important than thickness up to 10mm with the case, so when i see phone makers sacrificing battery capacity to drop thickness from 9mm to 7.5mm i m getting... angry. Height is not so important, i would like to sit down with the phone in my jeans pocket, so it should be at a maximum of 16.5mm with the case.
So ATM the perfect phone for my needs is the S8+, but it is not perfect, the ideal weight is at Max 175grams with the case and it's exceeding it, i also would prefer the 16:9 screen format rather than 18.5:9.
I will never go over 74mm width and less than 3500mah ever again.

LG superfan, 11 Feb 2018I dont see any edge os S9 and why is top bezel thickerNah fam, they didn't trim down the top bezel but trimmed down the bottom one instead, if u do some measuring with your ruler. But, the side gained more bezels than before comparing it to the GALAXY S8 and it is starting to look like the GALAXY A8 2018. I don't mind if they shave no bezels at all for the front, I also don't mind them shaving equal amount of bezels for the top and bottom, but right now what I am looking at is sort of like a downgrade from the GALAXY S8 for the front design. I just have to say that the GALAXY S8 looks better for the front. I have a suggestion, why not have the GALAXY S8's front and have the fingerprint placement like the GALAXY A8 2018? Won't that look better than having some noticeable bezels for the side for the GALAXY S9?

Didnt ev leaks confirmed in that same render that the sides are curved more. Those front facing renders actually are side bezeless. Samsung is aiming for higher screen to body ratio, so I dunno why we assume its gonna be lower

Whackcar, 11 Feb 2018S8 is clearly the better looking device from both front and... moreThey've already lost their sense with S8. It completely killed their sales (worst selling Samsung since S6 at least, probably you should go all the way back to S1 to find a worse selling Samsung flagship).

I mean that phone (s8) managed to be equal or worse than its predecessor in most important metrics. The only thing it managed to be better at is the fact that it looked cool.

if S9 goes back to S7 roots. I.e. not the best looking *but* actually an upgrade over its predecessor it will do well. If it's a repeat of S8 just uglier, yeah, it will fail even harder.

" though thinner bezels can harm ergonomics"

No they don't w proper palm rejection.
Big bezels do by making the phone too big to be handled one handed and too big to be portable

Is this the S4-S5 version 2.0?
S4 looks better than S5, as to S8 looks better than S9.

S8 Owner, 11 Feb 2018I always wonder why do people care so much about the design... moreAnd with that being said, I proclaim everyone to buy phones with large bezels since the original designs get hidden in cases anyway.

Which camp am I in? I'm in the camp of 'not : buying a phone and having to starve for 2 months'. xD

As expected, or fortunately? Screen was just too easy to crack.

I don't mind about the bezels, I want Samsung do a mini version for this one. Even though they're bezelless, 5.8" and 6.2" inch is much bigger. Make compact version around 5" or lower like 4.7" XZ1 Compact is good enough.

S8 is clearly the better looking device from both front and back. I hope S9 flops hard so samsung can get back to their senses.

I always wonder why do people care so much about the design, they put cases anyway and hide the original design, so what different does it make how the phone looks like...
People are getting very emotional about phones while at the end of the day, every person uses 1-2 apps regularly and 10% of the phone capabilities but still want a computer like power house. chill, it's just a tool you use to send massages, take a few pics and tweet...

They are playing it too safe cause this thing is full of uglies. Not trying to be nit picky but for a so-called high end brand, that wallpaper is so amateur and basic. And yes, I know you're gonna say you can change wallpaper but it just shows what kind of designers they got. Unimaginative and bland. Their home screen is a waste of space too. Everything is so spaced out and far from each other and not neatly tight together. Fanboys will come at me with "use a different launcher" lol
