Devanagari script is known to about 50% Indians (about 600 millions). Even if 1% of them are smartphone users it could be worth considering for devanagari script.
Okk. Let's keep demographic data aside. Why should I spend money if the product is not fulfilling my requirements?
Actuallly it becomes funny when the person before you with $50 phone can have devanagari script support. And your $400 to $700 gadget couldn't have that.

I do like open sourced operating systems concept. But I will not love android as long as it doesn't support devanagari fonts with proper rendering. If devanagari font is possible on cheap dumb phones, I really dont know why it isn't possible on the great Android OS..

I had to redownload newer version before it worked again. I know of the back up utilities you told me. I even had backup master. But things like My words in word prediction also disappeared. My settings there also disappeared. My shortcuts also disappeared. The order of the icons in the applications were not installed as it was before too. Apps settings have to be reconfigured. Do you know of any solutions to all of these?
