Yann, 14 Feb 2018Listen kid, obviously you do not have any idea what is the ... moreThen create your own phone manufacturing company. You have better ideas than HMD. Hands down to these kinds of people. Every one has a right to say their opinions (except North K.) but these comments like this make me mad. lol TBH, you better stay with your phone and stop bashing other people's choice. Their choices are theirs, NOT YOURS. :)

I think Nokia/HMD has done really superb for its first outing of handsets. The company needs to build some profits and to sell what they have when all folk go on about is Sammy and apple is superb news.
I buy what I want not what the cool gang dictates my Nokia 6 does 95% of everything all the flagships do bar camera but its is not bad. If there was a robbery taking place and had to photo/video for evidence for police they would be able to use it as evidence. Most just upload to social media some shots that are on these sites (even when iPhone visible in picture ie mirror selfie) they are awful and noisy/fuzzy.

Yann, 14 Feb 2018Listen kid, obviously you do not have any idea what is the ... moreAnyone who has to stoop to calling the one the argue with "kid" shows they've run out of arguments and simply try to use master suppression techniques via insults. It's quite tragic. So please, don't.
Thinner devices sell better than thicker ones. This has been verified with extensive market research by both Apple, HTC and recently HMD. I'm guessing all manufacturers have done this research, but those three have at least talked about it publicly as well. If manufacturers want to compete with the giants Apple and Samsung, their devices must look more appealing than them in the stores, i.e. be thinner, sleeker and better looking in general.
And talking about the camera, both the Samsung and Pixel fall apart in low light scenarios. You can either have a good camera or a flat back, you can't have both. There's a reason ultra-compact mirrorless cameras still have lenses that look like this: https://i.imgur.com/ACAZSh2.jpg
Now, would you please publish the market research that says the curved display isn't welcomed by the market? Because I can assure you that Samsung, one of the largest megacorporations on the planet, has done the market research. And they're about to launch another curved-display device.
Finally, the Nokia 8 was launched as a high-end budget-friendly device, competing with devices such as the OnePlus. It had cost-savings to keep the price down, as the camera and lack of other flagship-features show. The Nokia 9 was slanted to be the flagship, but met with repeated delays.

FinnishInquisition, 14 Feb 2018You're calling me a biased fan because I'm asking you to be... moreListen kid, obviously you do not have any idea what is the market demand or how the technology evolve:
1. Thick phone? Are you calling Samsung Galaxy phones thick? Or Google Pixel's? Cause they are about 8mm thick - 7.9 for Pixel and 8.1mm for Galaxy S8+. Both phones DO NOT HAVE camera hump!
2. Curved screens are used mostly by Samsung and they are not very well welcomed by the market, cause they are inconvenient to use - often touching the screen by accident, not comfortable to hold etc.
3. Nokia 8 was by all means flagship device from HMD. SD835, Carl Zeiss lenses etc. But made big fail in camera performance - mediocre at best, and awful in low light - for a flagship device.
Oh, and last one - bottom bezel of the phone is big enough to hold FPS - for example. And if they was clever enough, to put regular screen, not curved, there should have enough space to mount it side, as Sony. Stupid decision from Chinese company, holding the brand Nokia. Definitely - not the old Nokia, that i know. And i know what is camera hump - i still own 808 PureView and Lumia 1020, but they was the camera kings for their times. This is another Android handset.
I know that you will continue to speak nonsense, so i will stop this conversation.

Flat, 14 Feb 2018Curved edge screen?? Why???????????? :((Yes getting a QUALITY tempered glass screen protector to fit can be a challenge. But it can be done. and YES the surface are on the sides does up the chances of impact related breakage. Yes people with abnormally large paws like me have some slight issues with touching the sides by accident.
However some people like the curved screen. Some people actually use the edges like Samsung intends for notifications and what not. And it really does catch people's attention. Not to mention it works like fishing lures in a sporting goods store. Most aren't intended to catch fish, they're there to catch the eye of the buyers.
All in all it's personal preference. As a long time Galaxy active series owner, I tried the S7 Edge. Impressive screen, did get the tempered glass to fit right. Put it in a quality case. Worried about breaking that screen constantly. And switched back to the flat screen with the S8 Active. Just wasn't for me. If it works for you or not, I'm not going to judge.

Flat, 14 Feb 2018Would you share with us your current phone?
And if you hav... moreWhat do what phones I've owned matter? And how are curved screens relevant to the comment you replied to?
People typically complained about the curved display because of bad side rejections, which is something that can be fixed in software, and is entirely Samsung's fault.
I've never used a screen protector on my phones, but a quick search reveal tons of screen protectors for the S8, including tempered glass alternatives.

And if you have ever owned one with a curved screen?
My friends have s8 and they hate the edge screen. glass screen protector you can forget.
You can put an ugly case on it, but then you kill the design totally.

V, 14 Feb 2018Another 5.5 inch? its 6 inch+ screen era . Nokia never learn. LOLNo we're not? Flagships are still around 5-5.5". Phablets released in the autumn are 6" and above.
If this phone is using the 16:9 aspect ratio, which I hope, then 5.5" is perfectly on par with the rest of the market.

Yann, 14 Feb 2018You're such a biased fan...
The design and functionality o... moreYou're calling me a biased fan because I'm asking you to be realistic in your expectations of what's doable on a smartphone? Don't be so petty.
Curved displays aren't uncomfortable, nor are they necessarily more fragile. The curvature is aesthetically pleasing, can be useful with edge features and makes it nicer to have the finger run over the edge when swiping.
And as I said before, thicker phones DON'T SELL. HMD aren't going to make a phone that doesn't sell. People keep claiming "they could just make the phones thicker" to fit bigger batteries, or avoid camera humps, but when customers come to the stores, it's the thinner devices that fly off the shelf. Besides, very few people whine about the camera humps.
And how do you know what camera performance the Nokia 9 will have? Have you seen camera samples? I thought not. Don't claim what you have no idea about. The Nokia 8 isn't a flagship. The Nokia 9 supposedly is. With the flagship label comes flagship performance, including more expensive sensors and improved camera software.
So I ask you again; where would you put the FPS? And do you want good camera quality or a flat device? You can't have both.

I wanted to give the new Nokia a chance, but after seeing that they don't allow us to root their phones, I've completely lost my interest.
You can keep your restricted garbage! I don't want it!
Might as well go buy an iPhone..

FinnishInquisition, 13 Feb 2018So where do you want the FPS? Be realistic.
Can't have it ... moreYou're such a biased fan...
The design and functionality of the phone is a very tricky, but that's the way to recognise the smarter company - curved display is uncomfortable and fragile. And lead to FPS on the back - bad development department. Also it is way better to make phone 8 or 8.5mm thick instead of such ugly hump - will have space for bigger battery, wireless charging etc. Not to mention that Nokia 8 have very uninspired camera, to say it easy. Nokia 9 will not be far away from that - in best case - mediocre camera. I do not use cases on my phones to hide the gorgeous design. And that is failure - the design of that phone is blind - nothing.
