04 August, 2011
The 8 megapixel unit measures 1/4" in diagonal and it is the slimmest in its class to date.

AnonD-1131, 05 Aug 2011Ironic isn't it? My Nokia N8 still rules the cameraphone... moreN8 is not better than android or iphone because aside from the camara theres nothing else good. Thicker that any top of the range phones , poor screen , limited apps , rubish processor . plus no point having a 12mp camara and then giving it a plain omoled screen . nokia ar like that 40 something guy who thinks he's still cool but isn't .

    Manyuken, 05 Aug 2011And just for the record, the N8 doesn't even record 1080p! ... moreIt's able to record at 1080p, it's the OS that's preventing it. That's amazing considering the price point, so yeah: 720p at that price point is quite good actually.

That Maemo phone was light-years ahead of it's time and can still hold it's ground even now. I've experimented with my friend's N900 and it has a stable CPU clock speed of 1.2 GHz and it's dynamic too. Battery life is on almost on par with the iPhone 4.

        And just for the record, the N8 doesn't even record 1080p! it only goes up to 720p since the hardware is outdated!

I never said that the camera of the N8 sucked..but if Omnivision made a 8 megapixel module with a better sensor it will have a better quality than the 12 megapixel module in the N8. Megapixel is just 1 side of the story. And the rest of the N8 is just crap like more people stated in this comment section, like the Cpu and Gpu...and the OS is just mega crap...

          Nokia hasn't been in their game since the N95...every N-type phone made after that is just plain rubbish....true story!
          N96 was a flop, so was the N97 and the N97mini, and also the N900!
          The N8 hasn't changed that....so stop please with the Nokia fanboy behaviour since people like me are only stating facts...I've sold camera's for a living so I know a thing or 2!

Forget the older ones, they won't stand a chance. I've yet to see a smartphone that can produce a better picture WITHOUT artificial effects except for the N8. Just so you know, Apple went number one because it only sells smartphones and no feature phones or the basics, so that shouldn't be a surprise considering the theme of the survey.

                But all other things that you write are stupid.
                Nokia have the best camera among phones on the market with great optics. Tell me better phone than N8!

                  Chochito Alegre, 05 Aug 2011Nokia N8 is the best phone made it ever. iPhone sucks !!!N8 sucks...the software is old, it's slow, the hardware is slow and outdated.
                  Ok the camera has 12 megapixel but the extra megapixel is useless if the Sensor built in the phone can't make full use of it....
                  When will people learn this?....For example I'd rather have a 10 megapixel Digital Reflex Camera than a 14 megapixel compact camera...Why? The Digital Reflex camera has a sensor that is capable of extracting more detail and forth making better use of the total of megapixels it has available. If a 8 megapixel camera has a better sensor than that 12 megapixel in your outdated slow N8 (which is just crap...) than that 8 megapixel camera will have better details and a better noise reduction which leads up to a cleaner picture!
                  And 1080p video = 1080p video doesn't matter HOW many megapixel you have since 1080p video is LESS than 3 megapixel resolution!

                  So before you post something useless next time check you facts and do some research!

                  Peace out!

                  Ps. Apple has beaten Nokia in the game of manufacturing and selling!! Smartphones! ;)

                    Let me tell you my expiriance with my N8.
                    Pros:
                    - very good build quality;
                    - best camera on the market yet;
                    - free offline GPS navigation on very good quality;
                    - very good level of customization(Android is better IMO and iPhone is worst, but will see after Anna and Belle updates);
                    - very good battery life;
                    - perfect multitasking - I'm often driving and listen music in my car via FM transmitter with running OVI maps to guide me. All that run smooth without problems, ofcourse with phone calls together;
                    - Great connectivity - no need of iTunes or something else. Bluetooth functionality is one of the best. HDMI is very good, USB functions are great;

                    Cons:
                    - Current interface is not so good as Andriod one;
                    - Browser is totally outdated;
                    - Low RAM - 512 would be great, when you load heavy flash pages in the browser;
                    - CPU+GPU are not enough productive when you've heavy browsing - the phone start lagging;

                    Generally, I'm OK with my N8, but hey - everybody have differen taste. Different preference.
                    I admit that Apple are top on the market, because they make perfect marketing noise all over. Google is good enough too.

                    So please, nobody is perfect - not NOKIA, not Apple, not Google etc.
                    I'm using a lot of my camera and that makes my N8 perfect for me at that point. There is enough apps for my phone, because i don't need so many games or useless apps, that tell me how to split my bill in the pub, for example... But that just me!
                    Be happy!

                          A lot of reviewers and editors favor the best iphone over other devices too. I'm not sure if it's because apple is an American company as are our editors. The last report of the mobile phone Os showed that google did not increase sales in the month of May. Yes this means that throughout may, the same amount of people activated an android as it was in April. From one month of data, the editor came to the conclusion that android sales has halted and iphone is now driving the sales of all smartphones... What kind of biased opinion is that... That's more dangerous then what politicians tells us. "because we can't pay our debts this month, we come to the conclusion that we will never be able to pay our debts again. "

                            The only people who will listen to you talk about the n8 are people using that device or nokia fans. You are not going to convince others otherwise. Similarly what people say about iphone or android devices won't convince you to try one. So why do you waste your time arguing about an outdated phone?

                              Apple has really done a good job marketing their products. They really know what nerve to hit. They saw all the sheeps wearing Louis vuitton handbags and realized the human race has an appetite for consuming luxurious products to show off to others. Their whole iphone marketing was you either have an iphone or you are poor. People who only text and talk are buying iphnes4 so that they can put it on the table when eating dinner. This is why when I was buying a phone, i didn't look at what all the girls were buying, i bought what I was going to use. Android is by far the best OS I have ever used. I had the xperia play for 2 months and had no previous android experience and I can tell you with certainty that I will never buy another non android device. I don't believe google would or could ever fall behind on developing the android to better our needs. It is open source os, we do what we want with it. Stop listening to Steve Jobs and doing what he wants you to do on his products.

                                  I have experienced plenty of different Nokia Products. From what I have seen, @Nokia does not rule, doesn't know what he is talking about. You haven't outlined any specs or features. You are backing up your information from personal use. Not everyone uses the Nokia products the exact same way in which you do.
