Samsung left with excess OLED panels after Apple halved production

Apple's iPhone X over-estimation may hurt Samsung's margins.

The report just said that the future demand for the iPhone X in 2018 is weaken, as in, not as strong as it used to be. So, in order to maximise the profits, Apple has cut down the production for future iPhone X. As a result, Samsung had been left with many high quality OLED panels that no other companies can currently afford to be sell off to.

And for your information, Apple never disclosed the number of iPhone X sold. The quarterly financial results just covers the revenues, profits and the numbers of product sold as a whole. Those who reported about the numbers of iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus sold are from respected analysis and reporters, and NOT from Apple itself. (Show me a link to prove otherwise) But I guess, since it didn't come from Apple themselves, you going to treat them as an unreliable source right? Lol.

Painting something as facts when its clearly not is what I object against. Going by alot of analysts and "people in the know" iPhone X was selling really bad, outsold by 8 and older iPhones. Now there are hard numbers and facts that shows that this was clearly not the case. Apple sold pretty much exactly what they as expecting to sell according to their guidance for that quarter. If Apple had expected to sell as many iPhone X as some analyst said they were Apple would have missed their guidance by a mile.

AshesToAshes, 19 Feb 2018I'm sorry but I just don't understand how this works. If Ap... moreIn the contract, Apple would have to buy at least the minimum quantity ... So Apple may say they expect to sell 40m units. But they will buy a minimum, say 30m panels ... Samsung as supplier will have to price in the extra 10m units in case Apple doesn't require them. Samsung may also say to Apple that they must pay, say 25% of cost, for the extra 10m which they didn't take up. It's all depends on how the contract was written up.

Let me assure you that Samsung were never out of pockets. They may have extra panels in their factories ... but they never made a loss on the contract. Contingencies were made for such an unforeseen outcome.

Don't be so ignorant. Just because it didn't come from Apple or Samsung or some other smartphone OEMs, doesn't means it's fake news. For instance, MOST of the articles here in GSMArena ALONE are not from the manufacturers or official smartphones OEM. It comes from leakers, analysis and insiders. And sometimes, even redditors. And most of them comes out true in the end.

And honestly, do you REALLY think Apple going to give out a statement, stating that they had cut the production of the iPhone X? Lol no. It would be a PR disaster for them.

and then, they couldnt use them...until other brand steps in and copy that notch, then sammy can sell to them. understand???

simply they can just cut the top notch and do a smaller screen to use, but whi know if aiple change their mind.
