https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Trends/OLED-panel-glut-looms-as-Apple-slashes-iPhone-X-production
It's not a rumour or a speculation. It's not even an analysis. It's a legit report from someone in the know. Apple is cutting the production of the iPhone X in half because of weak demand.
If you still don't believe me, answer me this. Why on earth is Samsung having so much excess OLED panels in the first place?
Stop being a fanboy and just face the facts.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2018That just proves that you're ignorat (i.e.: have no idea wh... moreI have used OLED since the Nokia N86 in 2009. And while most of what you say is true, I really HATE this technology especially since Samsung started using it. Indeed,
* Fuzzy image except on VERY VERY high density screen
* The very fact that screen burn in IS still a problem, and non-existent on LCD - and stop lying, it is still very prominent, just go take a walk in Wallmart
* Over mega saturated colors and harder to get a soft realistic color pleasing to the eyes
* High contrast I agree, but in consequence most of films look very unrealistic because of too much high contrast ratio
* Power-consumption is over-rated on such small screens.
* More expensive
The only thing I loved about the OLED screen of Samsung is the ultra-low brightness but I am sure if OEMs where less stupid they would have done it on LCD too.
Most of other features can be done on LCD even the always on as Nokia showed us. So I am for well made LCD screens.

For the past two years, experts have been saying that the cost to produce oled displays is even cheaper than led, due to better mass production techniques, so therefore this article is not true.

Kyo, 19 Feb 2018Oled or lcd don't matter to most users and personally I jus... moreThat just proves that you're ignorat (i.e.: have no idea what's the difference between those two technologies).
To name a few points in favor of OLED:
- it's a MUCH better choice for always on functionality as it can turn on only specific pixels while LCD has to turn on entire panel; in short, OLED uses less power.
- produces wider color range -> looks better
- produces more contrast (infinite, as blacks are actually black) -> again, looks better, can provide better sunlight readability
The only drawbacks are higher cost (which is getting closer to LCD) and burn-in, which is getting less prominent with every generation. That can be mitigated with both improving hardware and software workarounds (shifting static images like on-screen buttons by few pixels every now and then).
Tl;dr: OLED is superior in most aspects.

This is the sole reason why Samsung is left with excess OLED panels.

I don't know if the notch is there on the panels, if it is there then it would be harder to sell the panels.

Onyxia, 19 Feb 2018This also means that the iPhone X doesn't sell that well. ... moreSays who? It's only speculations, not facts. That "40 million" is taken out of thin air, not Apples numbers. The only fact we have is that they sold very well last quarter. Analysts have been proven wrong so many times I don't understand you sites like GSMArena keep posting them...

While they clearly have a problem of what to do with all those unsold displays (and a lesson learned for doing business with Apple) they are not facing any competition from China, and LGs OLED panels for mobile arent as good. Samsungs oled dont really have competition in the mobile space, actually, so I have no idea where you guys took that from.

Why don't Samsung consider creating a phone with the screen size instead? A S9 or Note 8 Mini, or A8 Premium? Boost sales and clear inventory at one go.

Why not lower price of iPhone X? I'm sure they can still make some profit, if they lower price it will sell more but then no one will buy iPhone 8. Overall bad planning from Apple

This also means that the iPhone X doesn't sell that well.
Reducing the production of the iPhone X from 40 million units to 20 million units is a huge over-estimation.
