Oneplus is merely an assembler of outsourced components, they kept alive mainly because of stock android experience.. Whereas Samsung, LG or Apple (not a iphone fan though) has much better R&D in their respective departments too.
Samsung is one stop sources for almost all internal components, LG is way forward in Display tech and Camera section. Apple is already the fastest mobile chip on earth even with 2017's iteration of Bionic.

I'd still prefer to keep my Note8...I still miss some things on my 5 (and sequentially on the 5T), but there are too many Note8 features I can't give up. Although, I'd pick the 5T as my secondary device if I could.
