I think this is a great move for google and ALL android users to combat apples anti competitive behaviour.

Android is only as big as they are because it is a multi phone platform. Google realises this and would not be silly enough to put android exclusively on Motorola.

As an EX iphone 3GS and 4 user i left apple because of their slow pace of development (camera, screen size, flash etc etc) all i can say is GO ANDROID.

ps to apple, i have converted 15-20 of my friends to android and will continue to do so because of the patent wars)

I wish nokia had signed a deal with the android community. Just imagine a nokia phone with an android in it. They'll take the mobile market so fast they won't cope with it. Just imagine.

If the motorola patents are available to the entire android community, what are the benefits to the average end-user??

AnonD-14743, 15 Aug 2011This is a wake-up call for Samsung, HTC, LG, SE and other m... moreIf that happens....android will die! people just don't buy smartphones because it's android OS, people buy smartphones because of the brandname and I don't think every one in the world is keen on Motorola. If android will be only available for motos only, that's gonna be a BIG mistake by GOOGLE.

The reason Nokia don't have Android, the reason Samsung has Bada OS for backup. How about SE and LG? Their smartphones are doomed. Motorola may have Android exclusive now.

This operation has been an low-cheap price for such a good patents, however just to remind all is not buying motorola name or line is just getting mobile line up. This means Motorola stays in control, just Google has a very good part of the patents for their exploit.

                              Good Move indeed...

Sun Down, 15 Aug 2011Considering that only a few days ago Motorola's CEO stated ... moreShows what you know. Motorola as a player was never big, in fact they're quite small, LG managed to outsell Motorola in terms of smart phones in Q2 2011. Google would not be scared to let Motorola go with WP7 even if you were to convert all smart phones Motorola sold into WP7 devices that would roughly only double WP7 market share from the measly 1% to 2%. The only thing of value Motorola has is their patent portfolio which is quite diverse.

Google would probably stay out of phone manufacturing meaning they would still let Motorola manufacturer phone devices under the Motorola monicker and hopefully, possibly start putting vanilla android on motorola and take out the hideous Motoblur that everyone hates.

When will most of you learn that there is nobody in the consumer tech business smarter than Jobs. He and Apple are always one business step ahead of everyone else. I'm not an owner or even fan of any Apple products but that is even plain as day for me to see.

Jobs created a "BRAND" an "ACTUAL BRAND: that Google can never ever ever match with or without Motorola.

And branding my friends is what it's all about if your desire is to be king.

Considering that only a few days ago Motorola's CEO stated that they are ''open to WP7'' and now Google bought Motorola wireless, I'd say it's more than just ''securing patents''.
