The only trends they follow are obvious new designs (18:9, notch), inexpenseive trends (FP), social trends (Animojis) and trends that save them money (jack removal even on "thick" phones)

If the Phone Had No Bottom Bezel, Then Notch Is Okay. But With That Big Bottom Bezel, The Notch Is Unjustified. They copy than then boast about having a Notched Screen. Shameless Marketing. God, I hope that this trend Dies Or The Bottom Bezel Gets Reduced.

Is stunning watch that they are copying a copy of the Sharp concept that Apple did and one of the most ugly and bad designed phones out there, the iPhone X. Ask Apple if they are happy with their sales against their foresights.
The prevision is that Apple will continue with notches and gestures in all of his upcoming phones. But it would be really fun watch that they remove it after have bad sales while others are releasing new phones with notch due to them.
If we want stop this ugly notch trend is clear that as commented the best we can do is not buy them plus share our disappointment in the social media.

Is bad for gaming, makes the display looks badly and weird while watching videos and films, in the best case with an artificial line added making the scene looks disproportionate due to the lack on the opposite side. And force you to work more programming your apps to support it giving that space a feature in your applications unnecessarily. Is by far better have a thin bezel like in the Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands that keep the features there or perhaps the Apex concept of Vivo or something similar.
The use of the notch is more a marketing trick for follow the Apple trend that anything else and attract customers who can not afford the Apple product and all the extras that it usually includes, apps, etc. Why wasn't copied before after Essential? Because no one was interested in copy a fiasco/flop till Apple did it.
I don't have any problems with Mi Mix 2 and take selfies is as easy as turn 180º your phone and push the button. There was a speaker trouble in the first generation due to the experimental state of the phone. But now works properly. That's all.
The best thing we can do to stop this is not buy products with notch. They'll disappear soon without sales. That's for sure.

5 of 6 phones have notch :D
By the way what's the point of notch if you can't remove bottom bezel, so far iPhone X with notch is only one which make sense.

Please guys take the time to rethink about that gimmick called the notch. It actually does more damage than actual good. Especially for a few extra pixels you might gain. It's definitely not worth it, because apps have to be written or modified in order to take advantage of the notch.
One of the dumbest innovations to come down the pipes.
