Samsung is a manufacturer! It’s a separate business. They can make profit just by selling components to other companies (ram, memory, display, camera). They don’t do it just for their devices. So say a phone uses exactly the same samsung-made components as a galaxy phone it should be more expensive than the galaxy (for samsung to make a profit). So if apple or any other company buys a component from samsung that component should be more expensive. Or in other words samsung phones should be the cheapest!
Now apple develops their own OS and design their components (this is a huge R&D risk if u consider they are designing their own SoC!) and they pay for their manufacture. So apple will always be more expensive. See a teardown for iphone x! Double stacked motherboard, a kinetic camera implemented in a tiny space, stainless steel. Everything is up there or even better on the iphone x except maybe the camera due to lack of variable aperture and less ram. Other than that what does the galaxy have that’s better? Nothing. So in my opinion comparatively the price difference is justifiable. A galaxy is made from an os made by google, a SoC made by Qualcomm (ok they make their exynos because they have to) and hardware made by samsung. In order to compare apples to apples (no pun intended) samsung should be the owner of android and Qualcomm and the sole users of them. Have an open mind. In the UK the iphone x is only £150 more than the s9+. I think the price difference IS justifiable for the reasons mentioned above but also u get the best customer service and resale value and accessories everywhere!

Samsung's TouchWiz is an UI deployed over pure android OS they got from Google. It's Samsung's way of differentiating from other Androids. I think you dont know about how different manufacturers put their own skin/UI over android. Xiaomi has MIUI, likewise moto, OnePlus and co. have their own flavors of android. Samsung has no OS of its own, okay, does Apple has its own hardware manufacturing facilities? Everything they depend on others. They only provide designs. Note8/S9 has same high quality OLED display, better camera, better productivity tool and software, comparable performance and still costs less than iPhone X, which is just an iPhone 8 plus in a different body with just an OLED screen and face ID to differentiate. That doesnt warrant such a huge price tag. And not to forget that NOTCH!

Apple develops their own OS and Samsung manufactures its own hardware, that doesnt mean there is no cost included in that, and also doesnt mean they got them for free. At least in hardware perspective a Samsung flagship is well worth for its price than an Apple.

Needless to say, they're dependent on google. Every other smartphone released now is. Except iPhone. So we could understand their high price, unlike Samsung using an OS they didn't made but just added more bloat and yet almost the same price as the iPhone X with their own OS, just $10 short. Everyone knows that. Well, not everyone. You don't know it. Now you know.

I thought it is called as Samsung's skin or UI on top of Google's android. I also thought/believed Samsung developed that UI/skin. So, r u going to say Touchwiz or Experience is also the work of Google? If so why Google's pure android version doesnt have half the useful features Samsung's Experience/Touchwiz UI/Skin has? Please enlighten me.

Well 348 dollars and 379 dollars still is less than 300 eur and around 300 eur. But to be honest year ago the phones will sell for maybe 450 and 500 or 550 and samsung will still makes a profit why?
Problem with Samsung is they spend a lot on advertising. They does not hesitate to give some millions for promo to a TV star or someone well known to do the advertising. Because as we know without advertising Samsung will sell barrely even a single piece of a phone.
In other words if we put on a stand next to each other Xiaomi Mi7 and Samsung S9 the xiaomi will sell much more. Most of the people have o idea whats the half or 80% of tottal specs means only that matters its price.

The battery in my S8 Plus for example is still going strong, bought since launch and cannot see any noticeable difference in the performance when using day to day. I say noticeable performance because obviously batteries will degrade over time but im more than impressed with the S8 Plus in this department.
I will be onto another phone well before this phones battery needs to be replaced and I happen to like the fact it is water resistant too. So win, so win for me. All good.

Android is open source. And u can’t really compare an android skin and apps with a whole os. That’s why tizen never caught up, or bada even. Samsung tried but failed to make their own os. So they got one ready from google and effectively duplicated all google apps. I am sorry but samsung music, samsung video, samsung pay, bixby. Why did they even bother? They have added nice features like the s-pen but honestly u can’t compare that to creating and managing a whole OS from scratch.

But again dont know how much profit margin they would have at these prices.
