Counterclockwise: people liked the idea of tablets, actual tablets not so much

There was massive hype about 8 years ago about a "post-PC world", but reality has a cruel way of proving hype wrong.

And I am not exactly fond of iOS's experience, but you are ABSULUTELY WRONG, IOS's programing language, called Swift is one of the easiest languages to learn, and very source friendly too (how do you think apple manages with just 2-3GB of ram? swift) the Compilers are the Friendliest I've met. And trust me. I kinda try to pull people to Android for it's openness.
Back for our subject. As a veteran developer who messes with both iOS and Android. I know what I am talking about.

        If tablets were build like phones, maybe they would have been more popular.
        Instead they used terribly outdated chipsets (except the VERY few flagship ones), low quality displays, low quality materials, poor battery life, etc.
        They just werent up to standard.

        Personally i had a tablet and i used it as my main PC for 2 years.
        It was good while it lasted, but one day the display layers sepparated randomly and now it works only if i bend it. I also never dropped it.
        The thing that annoyed me the most was the chipset. It only had Intel HD Graphics Bay Trail and 2GB RAM. Also Windows x86.
        Minecraft and retro games ran fine, but any other game ran on the lowest settings at around 20fps.

        I still hope for a tablet with Intel Core i7 and Intel HD 630, Nvidia MX150 or Intel Iris Pro Graphics 630.

          whoever said to you about that.. im sure he is not a developer (or he is a "windows" guy who never tried anything other than windows).

          ios apps are easier to program and easier to study compared to android. you just need to own a cheap macbook to do that.

          the reason why less viruses in ios is NOT because the way the apps are programmed. The reason is: because apple forbids the users installing apps from outside apple's app store. If u jailbreak your iphone and sideload its apps, you'll get viruses too.

            yes probably Apple is the last company that product flagship tablets BUT
            I am talking about why AUTHOR brands stopped making them?
            they are FIGHTING about "who has the biggest screen" why don't you make a tablet?
            and yes android apps are poorly programed BUT that is because IOS apps are hard to program AND because Android is the most used OS so most apps you find there are poorly programed games (like copies and ripoff) or simple useful apps (like RAM cleaners and camera mods) and when an app riches the "high shelves" (high level of popularity) it get re_programed and sent to the Applestore
            that is why it is hard to find viruses and ripoffs on an IPHONE

              The biggest reason why tablets are in decline (apart from Apple) is because of APPS. Apple iPad will always have it's place, despite tablets being in decline, simply because it has apps that work with the tablet exclusively & it's still getting dedicated support by devs. Windows and Android could never quite get tablets right because most of their apps/software programs were poorly scaled and badly optimised versions of their mobile/PC counterparts.

                I have 1 BIG Question
                why ALL companies stopped making flagship tablets? (except Apple but Android OS is more likely to replace laptops both business and gaming since it has open source software and games comeout on android before IOS since most phone/tablets have Android OS and because Microsoft Windows 10 phone is the $HITEST OS ever made TOTALLY USELESS for gaming)

                    Android tablets are far better. Google does not want them because they eat on their chrome OS sales.


                    In fact still using my note tablet despite the old hardware. Nothing as multidimensional out there.

                    And no tablets are not phones with big screen like another user commented. Big screens enable functions that are compeltely unavailable on phones, so they are made to be a completely new beast (I edit documents, watch movies, read books, keep notes on a big screen, heck even browsing in desktop mode is completely different than the mini internet of phones)....

                        The problem is that tablets have not received the same attention as smartphones from manufacturers. A Redmi note 4 has more ram, more hard disc space for less than 15000. On the other hand there are no tablets in the comparable price range. If Redmi or any company can bring out a 10.1 tablet with a good mid range octacore processor with at least 3-4 GB ram, dual sim, 4G calling and hd display under 18000/-, then the tablet market will also take off like the mid range segment just like the Redmi phones.

                              People don't use tablets these days because they are just a bigger smartphone. Nothing special, no significant hardware improvements over smartphones. So why should I carry a huge smartphone when I can use one that fits in my pocket?

                              Nowadays the only people I see using a tablet are those girls in the gas stations asking for surveys.
                              Bring back devices like the HTC Shift with full PC OS and things will be different. If I can install Linux on it, then count me in!

                                buy ipad if you need tablet. stay away from android tablet

                                  1- In fact Android Phablets such as "Old = Asus - Zenfone 3 Ultra ZU680KL" and "New = Oppo - R11s Plus" are Tablets which are more powerful and easier to carry than all tablets in the market.

                                  2- Android emulators becoming more powerful every quarter of the year. A Surface Pro in i5/HD620/256GB/8GB configuration can handle 5 instances of Blue stack 3 flawlessly.
                                  1300$/5 = 260$/1
                                  A device capable of handling 5 separate tablet + a fully functional PC is what made people change their mind.

                                  3- iOS for Tablet is what made it still alive.
                                  Technical Apps developed for iPads are mostly unavailable for iPhones, so, iPhone Plus series are next to useless in this category, which means even iPad mini is not changeable by iPhone 8 Plus, thanks to those app catalog.

                                  4- Surface is one of the most expensive options available. Even if we consider the Surface in this configuration and a person who needs 5 account for each app in its business, then you have 5 high-end tablet for 260$ each.

                                  Today, 5 unit of 10" fairly high end Tablets from any company will set you back 450$ each.
                                  5X450 + 500 (Least Price of a high end laptop) = 2750

                                  2750$ can be 1300$.

                                  Then, Who in Their right mind would consider Android tablets over Windows Machines or more compact Phablets?

                                      The actual details on this, though, is that the Tablets are still beating laptops on sales. So the interest has not wayned, the war against them has intensified... Professed interest is manipulated (by ads, new tantalizing products), actual sales less so.

                                        Any modern tablet is faster tnan most laptops in every day tasks. Only issue is that they are rare since oems abandoned them.

                                        The reasons are political (for example google made a political agreement to dissemimate chromebooks instead of android tablets) instead of what the people want or need...

                                        If tech sites were not fast to proclaim them dead they would be thriving in sales. It is more of a self fulfilling prophecy and an example of manipulated market rather than a genuine phenomenon...

                                        People prefer tablets over aaanything else. Is why phones are getting bigger, is why detachables + traditional tablets sell more still. But people often don't matter, google wants to sell Chrome OS, the end...
