I love the notch trend just because it upsets so many readers here.
You're still getting more screen, so it's not like you're getting less. You see the top bezel on your phone? Now make that all screen except for a notch for your earpiece and sensors.

It's a bad idea, you can watch less icons. And the 16:9 format has bigger screen area and doesn't need artificial black bars. This is all about marketing, save money for the manufactures and increase their profit. Plus the ugly shape and and also the screen fractures more easily even in a fall of a few centimeters. From the customer point of view means a loss of features and properties.
Only sheeps defend that unhealthy trend.
