Humancache, 21 Aug 2011Windows Vista is far better than the latest Mac OS... But didnt turn into gold, Vista was a major loss for Microsoft, only now with Win7 are they back on track - finance wise. Whether Vista was a quality OS or not is something else (I think it was more than fine when updated).

For example. Android was released and then had to go through financial crisis whereas WP7 was released after the market somewhat recovered. Also, 3 years is a long time in tech market. 3 years back, certain features just didn't exist on smartphones for obvious reasons like high price and underdevelopment.

The thing is, tech isn't so easy to predict. Hero today, could be zero tomorrow, and vice versa. Some rise, some fall. Whoever is on top tho, technology marches on, so enjoy it!

Anonymous, 22 Aug 2011What all of you who comment along these lines fail to compr... moreWP7 will be 1 year old in October, whereas Android has had 3 years to build up momentum in the

market. When Android was a year old, did it have all the features that WP7 has and Mango brings? Also don't forget, WP7 is still fighting an uphill battle with the legacy of WM6. Give it a break!

If you're going to make "proper" comparisons, then make them:
How many Android phones did you sell per month when it was < 1 year old?
How many people came in asking for Android phones when it was < 1 year old?

I happen to like WP7, but numbers don't lie and I'm honestly curious as to how Android compared in its first year vs. WP7 in its first year.

Yes Microsoft showed rapid growth in the market, but they aren't at a level to compete with Android or iOS.
The reason they display rapid growth? THINK ABOUT IT. How long has the Microsoft and Windows names been about? Consumers see the Windows brand and KNOW it. Android was a relative unkown in its first years. Even now, I have customers unsure of what it is. HOWEVER, the number of people who come into my store asking about Android handsets because they've heard/seen good things about them outweighs Windows and iOS put together. So what is TRUE growth?
Also, I haven't sold a Windows Phone device in over 3 months.

this is good news. WP7 can always do with creative devs and MS seems very serious about making WP7 work competitively. Android took ages to really take off, now it's fragmented and a little confused. MS has what it takes, I reckon.

It isn't totally good for either system. Totally open brings with it vulnerability, and lack of a unified feel or vision. Closed systems bring with it inflexibility.

Just jumping on a bandwagon and shouting "Open is good! Open is good!" only how's a lack of understanding on the subject matter. Video game consoles are an example of closed systems, and PC Gaming a more open system. Both have it's fans.

What's also interesting is that in a survey of open systems, Android scored as the least open of all. What's more, the Google Motorola deal also demonstrated a step in the... you got it, closed system. What's going on? Care to explain?

I don't believe in fully closed model of software infrastructure components like an operating system for example. The technology is getting more and more complex, at least the operating system needs to be open and standardized, otherwise it is not sustainable and even worth developing !
