    I did not see their press conference though; could also be some sort of retaliation for the implementation of 6Gb in the XZ2 bundle on asian markets or to the upcoming Xperia Fusion double camera sensor with their high ISO to compete with the P20 Pro? I doubt it - Sadly now Sony can be mocked by anyone...

      By the way, one of the sensors of new dual cam is 1/1.7" ....
      It has same specs of the one inside p20 pro, plus some stuff to make it even better. But is not same sensor.

            No, if you record a 480p video you wont be able to watch it 1080p or 1440p. It will still be crappy quality.

            Sony says no matter if videos are SDR, it will be upscaled played as HDR on XZ2/XZ2c.

            Sony uses the word UPSCALE since Z5 Premium. Just watch the official video used at IFA 2015.

              I prefer the camera of the Galaxy S9, better stabilization, better features, better camera software...

                  Your totally right but the big display they made sooner but I know most of things was from Sony specially Huawei targeting Sony
                  BTW add on the Xperia Z Ultra who you could write on the display by a pencil yes a real pencil it was a true phablet and a note like no need to make a stylus

                      You dont know what upscale is.

                      XZ2 can turn any video into HDR, no matter quality. Other phones like S8, V30 and XZ Premium can only play HDR the videos recorded HDR.

                      You can record a video with iphone 3G and play on XZ2, you will watch it HDR.
                      Z5 Premium can show videos in 4K no matter if they were recorded in lower resolution.

                      Tell me what Samsung did first except oled screen and hdr screen ( bomb 7) ?

                      Wireless charging, iris scanner, super slow mo, ingress protection, glass body, stereo speakers, face unlock, finger scanner , QHD screen, , pencil, bottom speaker, virtual assistent, telephoto, optical zoom, selectable cam aperture , 4K

                      All this were available before Samsung has it..


                      XZ Premium can record more than 3 hours of 4K , cam app wont shut down like Z phones. While other flagships are limited to 10 minutes or less.
                      Actually it will keep recording until it runs out of battery or storage.

                      My phone has S810 and can record up to 35 min, no Samsung phone goes beyond 10. Limit has been there since S5.

                          Great video, but Samsung way of dealing with low light is horrendous... I'd rather have some noise than have my photos/videos look like they were painted by van Gogh and bleached afterwards.

In each itineration they improved a lot just by adding and copying things implemented in the Xperia Z series for example...

                            Sony is always a pioneer in certain technological stuff but then it's not clever or bold enough to promote it, maintain or improve it... so most of the common buyers in the market doesn't care or has their needs and concerns unattended to... except the bad strategical, marketing and planning policies... I'm still mad at Sony for the Ambient flow design and the more often sincevthe end of Z series lack of investment on software department, abandon of lot of projects, apps and beta testing

                              Though Sony doesn't dominate the market share. Still, they drive the smartphone industry with their innovations. Like, the dual cam which will be introduced later this year in xperia will commence new era for smartphone photography. (Huawei p20 pro is based on the technology from 808 and 1020)
                              Without Sony, smartphones camera won't see the rapid growth in technology.
                              Sony battery tech is the best among smartphones most secure, durable, and with longer battery life. Samsung uses Sony's battery tech to ensure safety for their note series. Sony has the leading best smartphone screen. Just compare S9/S9+/Note 8/ip x/xperia xz premium side by side. And you will know what I mean.
                              It is all Smartphone reviewers don't want to highlight what Sony brings to the game. Their high resolution, ldac, etc sound enhancements. The best, mean the most stable, software experience you will find in Android is provided by Sony. Just compare nowadays a galaxy s5 and xperia Z. You will know what I mean. Just appreciate what is good.

But funny thing that no one mentions that Sony who isn't even in the top 10 sold phones, and who there mobile division is losing always and yet keep innovating and doing great ideas.

                                  BTW, I was watching Huawei's press for P20 and P20 PRO, they targeted Sony and it was the first time I see it. I don't know if Huawei done it before, but, it was the first time for me. They targeted Sony in their commercial before the press starts and it was a kid who was playing a game on his Sony Xperia phone the battery died so the phone gone off. I know they targeted Samsung and Apple but with Sony, it's strange. Because, Huawei sells more phones than Sony and in the top 3. I asked myself why would they do that? And I found out the answer while watching the press for the bigger megapixels and for 960FPS Slo-mo video. Same with Samsung, they copied Sony many times and this was the 4th time Samsung did with a company who doesn't compete them.

                                    First company to use NFC was Nokia.
                                    First smartphone to use 1080p screen was HTC DROID DNA.
                                    First phone to have water and dust protection was Casio Canu 502S.
                                    Upscaling is nothing special. Every device uses it if the video being played is lower resolution than the device can play. You also say "upscale of video from SDR to HDR". Do you even know what upscaling means?
                                    Heat while recording 4K is an issue caused by lack of SOC power and inefficiency. It's not Sony which makes the chips. As far as I know almost all flagships use same ones so saying that Sony is the first is a bit of a stretch.
                                    Using glass body isn't anything revolutionary. It actually even makes your device more fragile.
                                    "First to perform upscale of low quality mp3 to hi res audio"? What? Again you're showing that you don't know what upscaling means. Also, lost detail is lost. If the audio is of low quality, you won't be able to make it magically better. There is a reason why people still download FLACs and 320kbps mp3s.
                                    I give props to Sony for being able to fit 4k into a smartphone, but is it necessary? I don't notice the difference between 1080p and 1440p. 4k is a waste of device resources.

You can see from the S9 , samsung not just offering slow mo 960fps but they give costumer tools to make it easier using that tech. Like gsmarena said in their s9 review "Samsung has worked a lot on bringing a meaningful slow-mo experience to its users, not just the tech and raw footage" . Im xz1 user before so i know what that words mean ..haha
