Its just bcoz no big Oem actually manufactures their phones in India, which makes the cost go high, by importing them to India and custom duty taxes.

They're considered premium brand in there and so They get away with it. Iphone x costed 1570 USD at launch in there. So there are bound to be companies selling 300-500 USD phones. Since selling phones made in India (in reality assembled in India)+ labour cost is much cheaper, brands flock towards here

Phones thrown out at that time have very little time to grab mind share, before the next big processor is announced. I'm surprised the 2xl still commands such a high price when sold on contract. The smaller Pixel 2 xl is almost being given away at the moment. Almost cheaper to buy it new. Shame I can't get a 1 yr contract.

There's only flagships and like 6 midrange phones being sold here. Sure, there's the ultra low end phones of the likes of Alcatel, BLU and RCA being sold here but it's not the samr thing at all.
And that price hike is only made by Indians. Apple sells it at the price people buys it. They'll sell it twice the US price if Indians let it happen
