Well as i know Samsung they got nothing anyway.
One update of OS and thats it.
In case of updates Samsung is slower than any other company which sells mobile phones.

That's why getting an iPhone is cheaper in the long run.
iPhone 5S - released in 2013 - still supported on the latest version of iOS. So that's almost 5 years of support now.

Android flagship = $800+ , you get to use it for 2-3 years = $266--$500+ per year.
iPhone = $1000, updated for 5 years or more = $167--$200 per year.

This is why Android phones lose their value so fast. They become obsolete very fast.
But buying an iPhone actually saves you money in the long run. Instead of getting a new phone every couple of years, you just get a new battery and voila! A perfect working phone.

That was why I switch to samsung (S7 then S9 now). Sony also doesn't bring the compact z5 and xz1 to Indonesia, so no hope for xz2 too).

Anonymous, 03 Apr 2018It's not profitable to keep updating phones after two years... moreI would have to disagree with you. A fully functional midrange PC that comes preinstalled with Windows OS has roughly 10 years of Microsoft support despite the ageing hardware, and this PC is similarly priced with flagship phones. I am not saying that Samsung and other brands keep updating phones up to that long nor update the phone in every iteration of the the OS, but maybe upgrade to the next 2 or 3 iterations of android (which is annual) then support for the next 2 years like security patches? That's about 4-5 years life for a FLAGSHIP device. With that philosophy, people with midrange device might actually consider instead buying a flagship phone.

with the cost of phones going up i think this is unacceptable to have your phone dumped after 3 years. So you take out a 24 month contract and your bearly 12 month out of that and the phone is in effect obsolete, and thats if you get it on launch day. This needs increasing to 5 years from initial launch. You can still get an S7 or s7 Edge on 24 month contract so come next year it will be obsolete but id still have 12 month to pay on it. That needs to change. Somebody tweet Donald Trump.

You're rich so learning to install new OS or flashing other custom firmware shouldn't be a problem. But if that's not the case, it should save you a few bucks since that's just the reason you upgrade. Majority upgrade because of better specs or their older phones are now slower due to constant apps updating and not because of some "security updates".

LG Superfan, 03 Apr 2018What happened to Oreo update?Probably won't happen till mid-late 2018, they've only just started updating the s7 and it's variant.

On a side note I've still got my s6, use it as backup as I have an s8+ right now, if it wasn't for no expandable memory the s6 would have sold a hell of a lot more
