AnonD-16342, 24 Aug 2011Try to dig down and find out Maemo(as one user pointed out)... moreI just did. You use a stylus to tap on the one on maemo. It's different from the one used by Android in which you scroll from the status bar down with your finger. The way the notification was done in Belle is more like the one implemented on Android than the way it was implemented on maemo.

RVM, 24 Aug 2011Actually Nokia 9000 released in 1996 was smartphone already.yes, but it did not have an OS....so it was not coined as Smartphone...
Its name was Communicator... Smartphone was coined by Ericsson in 1998 as a prototype and 2000 when the R380 was released..

Gestapo, 24 Aug 2011Android is google and google is watching every step you tak... moreIts an over exaggeration what you're mentioning to begin with, and it also depends on what applications you install, and whether you "accept" the terms to be traced. Its in the start menu of most android phones.
There have been similar talks of this an iOS before, however with that, Apple did not ask for user permission the way Android has.
The way you talk is as if you're a Doomsayer, its the end of the world and Nokia is here to bring you deliverance.
Once again Malware and spyware is again a choice of the user in terms of what they install. Flexibility comes at a cost, the same as using a Windows PC platform, so that argument is very invalid without proper statistics and backing to prove it.
Also it would help if you knew how to spell environment...
This is by no means a Nokia bash, but the way you talk of it is really silly imho.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2011Can I call it COPYCAT, or something like that?This has no connection to Android mate.
"resizable widgets"
--> On Maemo before Android
"flat menu"
--> On Maemo before Android
"pull-down notification area"
--> On Maemo before Android
And Maemo was developed with support from Nokia.

What matters here is that the features found on Belle were popularized by Android, was brought to the masses by Android, and to the eyes of the masses, Belle copied Android.
It's sort of like the iPad. It's not the first tablet but it's the tablet that paved the way on how tablets are done nowadays. In this case, the features on Belle were undoubtedly popularized by Android.

[deleted post]Very true, but in return, while most of these UI enhancements may have been thought of by Nokia to begin with, the way they mashed them together by all means really did not have to look like the current Android platform.
Maemo was completely different in terms of how it looked and felt in that respect, the Nokia N8's Meego looked like something of its own, so why now?

I have an N8. The hardware is awesome no doubt! The initial software (PR1.2) was bad. I've updated to Anna last week and I must say the phone is very smooth and very responsive. There's great themes out too!
Now with Belle I think the N8 will be one of the best phones out there in terms of usability and hardware! And the best thing is that it can do all of this functionality with a 680MHz processor as compared to newer smartphones with almost 4 times this processing power. Hopefully we'll get the official Belle by the end of Sept!
Welcome back Symbian! Thought we lost u there!!! :p

[deleted post]Very true, as said before, I own a Galaxy S and I am by all means not a Samsung fan.
At times they make me Facepalm, especially with the Galaxy Ace, which is a blatant rip on the design of the iPhone 4.
Sometimes it feels like they're asking for law suits.

I'm seeing the trademark Android notification bar everywhere... iPhones, Bada... and now this.
Oh well. This is what they get for android being an open source system. They can get anything out of Android for free, and even have access to the code. Google can't sue, they've released Android like that.
