Samsung Galaxy S9+ Snapdragon 845 performance and battery test

See how the US version of Samsung's latest flagship performs, compared to its international sibling.

I think the temperature of both devices must be considered also when running those tests. Temperature has a big factor for battery efficiency. This is probably the reason why some sites have different test results. What do you think guys.

You guys battery life results seem very odd. Virtually all other organizations and publications have found the Snapdragon version to have much better battery life than the Exynos version.

I usually consider your site as a go to guide for battery life guidelines, but that's very difficult in this case when virtually everyone else has reached the opposite conclusion in regards to battery life.

I basically used the geekbench score as "top speed" in the story, and the Sequential Sceduler as "acceleration rate". Snapdragon will always hsve their Sceduler fast, to enable reach the not so powerful peak faster.
Samsung's Sceduler is tweaked toward efficiency, it clocks fairly fast toward the 1.8GHz without complains, but if you need MORE than that, "show" the cpu there's a lot of work to reach it's peak preformance.
As for the "track". I guess it has both, sections thst are straight, and sections that are curvy. Like the real life.

So it is found the Exynos chip can last longer time on web browsing, 11hrs vs 9hrs. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately my area has only the Snapdragon version available

Most other manufacturers use the Snapdragon chip, so the battery test result might look less appealing then

Anonymous, 07 Apr 2018SD has always been better. My S7 says otherwise :/

hm, i don't trust these results

That's why Intel and AMD should enter the mobile chipset competition too, and give us some seriously powerful all-round chipset that not even Apple's Ax chipsets can ever match.

Don't forget that Snapdragon absolutely SMASHES to smithereens any other phone as far as emulator performance is concerned. Shoutout to all my nerds who still play PSP games on mobile.

Now we know something is very wrong with these battery.
Anandtech and others have consistently found a large difference in browsing times. This shouldn't be surprising since the exynos is both slower to ramp up and uses tons of power one it's there.
The exynos will get better but these results are extremely questionable.

                        SD has always been better.

Would have been nice to see the S9 with Snapdragon variant here ... but I predict that one wasn't on for testing.

Kiyasuriin, 07 Apr 2018Even though Anandtech did it. Let's have a recap. Using rac... moreThat depends on the track. If it is a linear drag race, and a sufficiently long one at that, without any obstacles, then the car with more speed will win, but if there are sufficient turns, then it doesn't matter how long the race is, the one with higher acceleration would win.
Going by that logic, The Exynos version should become faster over time that the apps are run, but that's not the case here.
That being said, both variants are great enough.

Something is not right on someone's side.
Either anantech review unit is bad (faulty battery), or tests are not trustworthy on one or the other side.
I suggest gsmarena and anandtech exchange the devices and rerun the battery tests.

The China SD have unlocked bootloader.Yeah I know, it's the same situation for the s8/s8+, people keep blaming Samsung for the whole locked bootloader but like you said carriers have a huge say in it, I come from a a modding background so having an unlockable bootloader is for me personally as a consumer is important.

We know that all in all the two chipsets preforms EQUALLY WELL (both reach an avarage of 8,500 points in the MC department)
However. Exynos's peak preformance is higher, but the conservative sceduler is not letting it reach fast. Compared to Snapdragon's who is more loose.
                                    How it relates to cars?
Let's take an imaginary car, it has 950 HP, Max speed of 410 kph (255 mph) but acceleration ratio of 4.1s from 0-100 (0-62mph)
And another car, again with 950 HP, It has significantly lower cap speed, just 350 kph (215mph), but it sprints to 100kph (62mph) in just 2.7seconds.
As a racer. Which car will you take? The slow accelerator that has higher cap speed, or the fast one with lower cap?
That's the equalisation to E9810, the first car, and the second is S845.
