Whackcar, 11 Apr 2018Huawei deserves appreciation from the complete tech communi... moreI really doubt about this. The preview shots I saw lack sharpness. Tha same with the tele lens. Also no 4k 60fps and 1080p 240fps as many phones can now do. Low light is interesting but 100k iso? How come?

Good job guys for this article. The photo showing the camera sensor sizes alone is worth a thousand words. Look how small the iPhone's camera sensors are which many people can't stop pouring money into.
I don't like Huawei either but they put life back in smartphone innovation with the P20 Pro. It could have been Leica pushing Huawei to spend more on the camera system.

Whackcar, 11 Apr 2018Huawei deserves appreciation from the complete tech communi... moreP20 Pro has incredible camera, but still needs to improve software. Many shooting samples shows overexposed pictures - skies, faces.
But indeed, it's the most amazing phone launch from 2018, until now.

Surprisingly Samsung users are the most vocal anti-Huawei voice around. I wonder if Samsung feels threatened as "king of Android"

AnonD-724369, 11 Apr 2018I m tech support advisor and 20 years of experience workin... moreUr a photographer, yet all u talks about front camera. Yes, Huawei's new 24mp front camera is bad, previous huawei's phone front camera are a lot better. And i think thats only need a software tweaks upgrade, which absolutely will be fix soon.
How about rear camera? Any good? Is it overprocessed? If it too much, turn off that AI scene recognition mod as they results in punchy pictures, but also causing oversharp, too much contrast and overexposed. It exists in Mate 10 as well because of the AI, but still it looks great than other competitors, if u dont pixel peep (whats the function of pixel peeping anyway lol). Anyway i wish they keep the previous Mate 9 camera algorithm without AI mod, pictures quality more natural and wayyyy better.

AnonD-724369, 11 Apr 2018I m tech support advisor and 20 years of experience workin... moreMahn, thar Dxo rating is only for rear cameras of P20 and P20pro, Dxo does not check selfie photos, and 24mp selfie camera is for the ones who needs it, to just shoot themeselves in front, with beauty mode which many ppl uses(Not I for sure), its just personal preference, hate it or love it, its your choice, Dxo has good reputation over the world, and has something good to be going with these phones for sure.

AnonD-724369, 11 Apr 2018I m tech support advisor and 20 years of experience workin... moreOh boy, here come the proclaimed IT wizard. I don't know why people announce their credentials before voicing their opinions. Especially the IT guys. I've seen countless photo reviews of the P20 pro and they do indeed live up to the hype. The only complaint I've got is that they are sometimes a tad bit oversharpened. Lack of auto-focus is a bit disappointing on the front camera but you're missing the whole point of the rear camera. As for the screen maybe you've gotten a defective one, OLEDs do tend to have black sheep more often than LCD screens.

I m tech support advisor and 20 years of experience working in IT and Mobile field, also worked as a freelancer photographer, When I compare my P20 (not pro) with Oneplus 5 and Galaxy S7 the every website claim so much positive about camera seems it;s all lie
Front camera of P20 is all mesh, Human faces look so soft like make-up, lacks dimension and image look flat without any depth, highlight or shadow on face, and yes I tried all settings, and why on the earth anybody need 24 MP front camera? front camera has no auto-focus, not wide enough & images specifically faces look washed-out, without any sharpness , also too soft and bright, probably worst I have ever seen on any flagship level phone, Colors are not like actually look like in real-life, also launcher is least useful and no customization feature at all, anybody who buy Huawei will change the launcher first, screen quality is not perfect lower part of screen look more warm or yellowish than top half part, I don't agree anything DxO Mark said about camera quality, clearly Huawei feed them up with huge amount of cash for top rating, same as Samsung used to do most of the times

Nice setup!
This is what we need, competition!
Let's not settle for mediocre sub-1/2" sensors of most smartphones today. Huawei has just shown us that a sub-1" sensor is possible for a modern day smartphone build.
With that in mind, we know that the three sensors are Sony IMX ones, so if Sony can make a 1/1.7" sensor for other manufacturers, then it's possible to also make one of their own variant for their own phones.
The dual camera, Fusion ISP, and 51,200 ISO is interesting. I can't wait at IFA to see more impressive camera phones.
I certainly feel the comeback of Nokia 808 PureView photography essence.
Soon, we will reach a point where smartphone cameras will be able to take astoundishing photos that will look impressively good even on a billboard.
