Looks quite promising. However, it's a shame it's not 6'' or more, what a waste of using 4k on such a small screen. Battery should of been bigger as the current battery will be average at best. Why not use a 4000 mAh battery like Huawei??
The only good thing it will have a 16:9 aspect ratio, no black bars!
Shame they ditched the 3.5mm audio jack but at least no 18:9 ratio and notch!

But its advancing, in near future maybe....or maybe SD 845 modem is capable of it already, its up to game stream app providers to update if possible. That would be great.
Streaming hi res games on my 4K Smart TV looks good, but not so hi res, even on ethernet cable with 150 Mbit per sec output. And mobile modems are far from that number

It turned out they were using plastic camera lenses for the back cover which made it easy to get scratched and lose the AR coating unlike most companies which use glass lenses. They then wanted to charge me for the entire back glass replacement instead of just the camera lens since the back glass isn't damaged anyway, which shouldn't have any charge considering the phone was still under warranty and came with Premium aftersales service so I said NO and pulled out my device.

Only that it will be only thing why you buy their phone. If you compare phone sales vs cameras, there is huge difference. They do not stay behind, they run in opposite direction. I feel more certain future from even rumored surface phone. Hopefully they change tactic, this feels more like gaming and media centered device than social and business one. Phones should include all of that, not just half to succeed.

2 questions: 1- Will 4k recording restriction (maximum 5 minute just like s9) continue for xz2 premium? 2-Sony says world's first 4k hdr recording smartphone (but 30 fps). Is HDR recording or 60 fps recording more important and noticeable for daily use?

Well phone should be able to run at 4K full time before that. Wonder how long will last battery if not gaming and using 4K. Still, I wish they would at least include manual resolution mode and maybe even button to fast change that to be able to use other apps than just that of sony...

Now you've mentioned the customer service quality of Sony, I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. There's a good reason why Sony left our country instead of abide our government rules about phone regulations. Almost none of their customers satisfied with warranty repairs that took 3 months at the fastest with no data backup guarantee. :|

But I don't hold my hope to that as designers (myself included) usually will never look back to their past glory and resurrect it.

Insides are big too, especially DVS.
Its just that...this human-plate convex design of theirs, while being great for hand ergonomics, just doesnt look that great and attractive all around.
They should have used Arc design language with concave back, and keep the cams in the up top thicker part.
It would look much better.

No mobile game or app is made in 4k or 2k, and never will...there is zero reason to force that on developers.
New better res screens are not made for apps, but media content, specificaly video and photo. And XZ Premiums deliver exactly that.
If one wants a 4k UI, 4k apps, 4k games, they should get a desktop computer or game console.
Mobile is not on that level.

People wanted a slimmer version of the XZ1/Compact but with a better screen to body ratio. But instead, they got a thicker phone but with very little battery capacity increase plus without the headphone jack.
I would've bought the XZ1 Compact had it been officially available in our country, as I prefer compact phones. Unfortunately, Sony made the bad decision once again of not making it officially available like the X Compact. You can buy it though in grey-market sellers that source from other countries (w/o official Sony warranty) but good luck getting it fixed especially considering that Sony's aftersales service doesn't have that good a reputation either from what I've experienced and what I've read.

1. Poor screen to body r... moreNow you've mentioned details about other design aspects, everything falls into place quite nicely. Your arguments make sense, considering if they keep their stubbornness even an all new form factor design wouldn't help at all.
About their refusal to do OIS and many capabilities, I've read somewhere that they do it because they also have camera sensors and camera businesses. The users explained that by keeping their feature somewhat "behind", they could stay afloat in those other two businesses very well: selling the sensors to other phone manufacturers and still maintaining an "edge" from their camera business.
About the internal design efficiency, well...I don't know what's behind that.

If the compact, regular and premium are released, wonder what Sony at IFA will bring!
For ambient flow design, it's actually quite similar to Asus zenfone 2/3. It looks thiccccc but it doesn't feel thick in your hand, it's even fit your hand better.
For 4K screen, it isn't t false ads as you can really enjoy 4K contents directly on it and I totally agree with Sony to make it FHD when doesn't need it because who tf wants 4K when browsing or seeing basic apps? Sammy boy don't complain because even your QHD phone has an option to decrease the resolution to HD and many people do it so I don't see a problem for Sony doing it automatically. QHD is just a waste, it isn't so different to FHD compared to UHD yet it sucks more battery while being incapable to display 4K and so pixelated for VR, diamond arrangement just makes it worse. If talking about false advertising then QHD is.

My XZP will be my last SONY phone. I really hope to see beauty successor and to buy XZP2, but that garbage - never!
Fat as hell 11.9mm?!? 236gr?!? 16:9?!?
And with all that chunky, heavy, thick phone, they put FPS on the back?
And remove the headphone jack?
I'm so disappointed!

PS. Lcd or not, the quality is better, just have a look at Sony lcd, and tell me it's a crap
