Samsung Galaxy S9 sales fall short in South Korea

01 May 2018
The story was same for Apple, with the iPhone X also witnessing dip in sales.

Why not the Samsung S series be the same size as 5.1 inch display as S6, S+ series be 5.5 inch display as S7 edge and Note series be the same size as 5.7 inch display as Note 5?
And why there is a plus series like S9+ required, when note series exists. What is the breakdown of sales between S8 and S8+?

If the form factor would have greatly reduced, by providing edge to edge display, then for the improvement in battery life and processing power given by new gen of chipset, we would have really felt the battery life improvement and also realized the performance of the new flagship.

Currently as the screen size is getting bigger and bigger in flaghsips, for the same amount of battery in compared to the previous gen flagship, the battery life is becoming worse and performance cannot be realized in day to day usage.

I have recently had a hands on at a8+, it looks gorgeous, but it definitely a monster, which a normal person do not want to carry in their pockets.....

Samsung has to seriously think about the phone sizes getting bigger and 5.0 inch factor slowly getting into woods......

Sometimes Undoing can correct something... S4/S5/S6/S7 was the best form factor according to me, but not to be seen anymore......

For a S9+ and iPhone X price in my country, I can buy a motorbike which can help me to go places, but year by year phones are becoming smarter by making people dumb and immobile...... Welcome to the End of the World..... Robots will definielty take over us... Technology Companies will survive, but humans will slowly extinct

The main reason for this being there is no bigger upgrade and they are too expensive. Some 200-400 euros mid range phones are good enough and worth the price. Apple and samsung should start lowering their flagship prices and their sales will increase.

Anonymous, 01 May 2018That 40 million is the amount shipped not sold you dummy.. ... moreYou don't know anything. Firstly those were the sales figures of q1. Apple had already sold more than 77 millions in q4.
Secondly, the number was 41 million for q1. If you don't even know the numbers how were you making shipping assumptions?
Thirdly, Korea is their man market. If they fail there, you can assume it is a flop.

Anonymous, 01 May 2018And they called iPhone X a flop after it sold more than 40 ... moreThat 40 million is the amount shipped not sold you dummy.. iPhone X is considered a flop because that 40 million stock wasn't bought by consumer and they had to reduce the supplier's manufacturing order.. This slow S9 sales is only in Korea.. And didn't force the supplier to reduce anything

People should boycott 1000$ mobile phones.. A mobile phone is not worth that much of money

It was anticipated... There was nothing new to offer (in terms of design)... Camera is just a gimmick...

I think is not only on Korean market

S9 probably outdone by S8 success. It is too short for flagship cycle. S9 is a great bargain if someone eyeing iPhone X! You pay just half the price for the same or better!

S9 Plus is a different story altogether!

also i would like to throw in that all of apple's 4.7inch and 4 inch phones are selling much better than the 5.8inch X.

Korean phone market is now fully saturated. Smartphone penetration ratio is over 85% and approaching 90% in Korea. Even young children and grannies in her 80's have one. And many already own not-so-old premium class phone within 2 years or less, like Galaxy S7 or Note 5, which still works fine. They feel no need to hurry to upgrade to Galaxy S9. Such staggering phone sales will continue for the time being in Korea.

And they called iPhone X a flop after it sold more than 40 million units. So what is this now? Super flop?

And Korea is their home market. They make their biggest sale every year in Korea.

Easy. THERE ARE NO more small phones that are worth the money! everything is TOO DAMN BIG!

Imperator Neubaticus, 01 May 2018Yeah no. S8 has destroyed your unpopular opinions on big an... moreIt's always funny to me how Samsung fans always build up the current generation .. oh this s6 is great , good battery life, no lag they say.. and anyone that says otherwise is shouted down..

S7 comes out.. oh it's so much better than that laggy battery hog S6 in every way. Worth the upgrade.

S8 came out and everyone was crapping on the previous generation S7. Again always the same points, battery crappy, laggy , where as last year it was praised for the opposite.

Now S9 and it's so much better than that S8.. same talking points.

I guess trying to justify the purchase?

Most of the owners of S8 now know the disadvantages of curved edges. And most others already know...

dudecool, 01 May 2018the phones are big and bulky, curved displays are horrible ... moreYeah no. S8 has destroyed your unpopular opinions on big and bulky and terrible curved screen as well as no significant improvement over the s7. Try as hard as you want, you won't win any points in that department.

The fact of the matter is the s8/s8+ and the note8 are overwhelmingly accepted as miles better than the preceding flagship generation. However, your point on skyrocketing prices is correct.

I hope this means they'll do a compact, 16:9 flagship. (Alpha2!!!!) I never subscribed to Infinity Displays. S7 still good to go

I think the reason behind is that, previous generations are still good for them that's why the people are not yet interested in getting the new model. The market also is saturated by mid-range devices which is also capable of delivering the day to day task needed for a phone except those hardcore gamers and have the luxury and the urge of necessity to get a new phone to brag about to someone.
