Rumor: Intel to discontinue MeeGo development temporarily

Anonymous, 02 Sep 2011If n9 succeed then meego will have a brighter futureN9 will NOT succeed. There is special task group in Nokia to make N9 the biggest failure in all the time. They report directly to Elop. Sad but true. Sinking N9 they want to slingshot new WP nokia mobiles into high orbit. The reason N9 is not released yet is not the lack of apps (as you know all android apps acan run on N9) but the fact that WP flagman mobile is not ready. and here is the scenario - N9 will be released - will be great hit and people will whine it is not available on biggest markets. Then 2 weeks later Elop in whole his glory (like Steve Jobs) will present the "mobile that will rule them all" shiny new WP Mango powered "super phone". Available worldwide. Nokia will take insane media attention for a month... So after that do you believe Intel are so stupid to desperately pump life energy to Meego project? After all they are corporation seeking profits, not a charity fund.

Anonymous, 02 Sep 2011Nokia N900 isn't MeeGo, it's Maemo, another Nokia-developed... morei recommend to you to ask google for "maemo" and "meego" and read carefully about history of both OS. Perhaps you'll realize your statement is not correct.

AnonD-20498, 02 Sep 2011nokia should bring symbian back to life more than wasted aw... moreYeah you're right, but in fact Maemo (Meego now) is way superior, the funny thing I've noticed having owned a N900 is that Symbian is taking features from the Maemo UI and integrating them into Symbian now days, Looks at Symbian on N97 compared to Symbian 3 on N8, its heading towards Meego.
Frankly they had the best OS in Maemo/Meego Period, and the Microsoft deal killed that, So now the Nokia that we loved for hardware plus software combination is just hardware now days. These are sad times for Nokia fan boys like me.

I read couple of comments down there and it so sad to realise that none has seen the limelight: the true culprit is Google. Google in silence has built up a deceiving strategy- monopoly in ad industry. Everyone feel google is a hero because of so good 'free' features but what no one really knows is the ton of money Google makes through advertisement. Tat one of main motivating factors for entering mobile industry. Nokia demanded a share of this revenue and google had no plans of sharing the loot. Now they are shitting in their pants which is why they bought motorola. Nokia is coming back wit a bang. And frankly android is a bunch of crap and not worth the hype. But since google owns internet and thanks to a bunch of morons lik u - well, android is the best os.

Extra points for Google.
And having Elop at the top of Nokia, I will never believe that Nokia tried to find understanding with Google and only after that they had their offer from MS. Nokia tried to lure Google into playing fixed game.
And funny part is that Nokia is still playing game fixed by MS.

Not worried in the least. Meego sdk and source code is already available to the public and there's loads of development going on for it. If not only through XDA but Meego.com community itself is developing like crazy. Meego wont be leaving, if anything, it'll be improving vastly. Especially after that Call to action by Arjan Van Der "something". I'll just wait a few more days, Grab me an N9 and be content with my Meego phone

MyName, 03 Sep 2011Let's have a look at it: if Google would agreed to restrict... moreJust remember Nokia is the ONLY manufacturer that can change the WP7 OS.
Nokia is not just another reseller of Microsoft, is Partner...both have a partnership in this matter.
Google didn't want that they only want to give the OS (with their restrictions of Google services) so Nokia was forced to look for other. And Microsoft offer this opportunity to Nokia.
Now Nokia has too many unwise moves lately.
Maybe Microsoft can be the only one that look for Nokia, since no others do that.
Google likes Nokia BUT they are not interested that much...And not now they have Motorola ownership (mobile) and Samsung/LG/etc. On their side....

AnonD-4697, 03 Sep 2011The main problems are, Google Maps-Nokia Maps and Android M... moreLet's have a look at it: if Google would agreed to restrict internal Android settings for eeveryone but Nokia, then Nokia would become the most featured with Android+OVI side Android smartphones, causing decline in smartphone sales of all other makers => forcing them to switch to other OS (clearly MS).
Knowing MS interests of Elop, I would give a couple of years before Nokia would kill it's Android branch, just like what they did with MeeGo and removing Android from major OS market whatsoever.
So the root of diagreement is not in Ovi Vs Android Market, but in Microsoft Vs Google.
Nokia is only an instrument for Microsoft. If MS want, they will give Nokia money, but if they want, they will drain and kill it.

MyName, 03 Sep 2011Google is interested in Nokia as much as in other mobile ma... moreThe main problems are, Google Maps-Nokia Maps and Android Market and OVI Market also Nokia don't like the way Google handles apps. There is too much conflict between those two.
These are two brands that don't mix each other.
Google don't like Nokia services and Nokia don't want to change their way of work.
Goolge don't want anything with Nokia unless Nokia give up Nokia Maps and OVI Store...
And of course no one wants get without Nokia Maps since they are FREE and Google don't going to give up their Google Maps just because Nokia.
Too much conflicts even Nokia looks more promising works with Microsoft than Google, since Microsoft offers MONEY...Google NOT.
Simple as that...

AnonD-4697, 02 Sep 2011WRONG
Nokia need microsoft money, Google is not interest... moreGoogle is interested in Nokia as much as in other mobile makers.
!BUT! I suspect Nokia (Elop) was demanding exclucive access to Android settings, that would give Nokia huge lead, comparing to other mobile makers, causing disagreements inside Android camp, and weakening of Android position in mobile OS market.
Google refused, offering Nokia the same rules as to everybody else, and on these terms Nokia would still become a top Android smartphone maker. Instead Nokia (Elop) openly turned to MS.
In other words, mission of Elop was not to bringing Nokia to max profits, but to stop Android from developing, in order to create a better climat for pushing Windows into mobile OS market.
(all Nokia fans now can say hello to Bill Gates)
