Android is a joke these days, every new update has less and less useful features in it or start to resemble iOS, I wish there was a solid alternative to it but there simply isn't. Huawei phones look great but they're expensive for a Chinese phone and the interface is straight up trash, not to mention the Chinese government uses it to spy on others.

every year, LESS Android smartphones are getting the latest software. in 10 years, every single Android phone will be stuck in about Android 11, even Google phones, and Google will have stopped creating new software as well, only security patches

Smuti, 09 May 2018Oxygen eats that snail called EMUI for breakfast. Oxygen surely is amazingly fast, but EMUI is also very, very fast. When I got to try the OP5T earlier this year, it felt a bit faster than my Mate 9. Not enough to make me want to switch phones, definitely not. But what surprised me was that my Mate was running more recent security patch than my friends updated 5T. Always thought OnePlus released those patches rapidly for their latest phones. Anyway, both are fast - Oxygen being the fastest one.

Google really needs to do something about Android. This dumb slow adoption of each update unless you have the Pixel or Android One based phone is retarded. 1/2 of phones never receive a major update, 1/4 gets at least one major update and remaining 1/4 only gets small updates within one version. Wouldn't it be awesome if ALL users of Android received every update guaranteed withing 1-2 months timeframe? App devs would also be able to rely on fast adoption of new features, like the Autofill which is limited to Oreo and most devices are still stuck on Nougat so everyone can kiss this feature goodbye for months or forever...

PeterThePanda, 09 May 2018Yeah, that's why I avoid LG phones, not to mention their UI... moreWelp, I'm glad I bought a Huawei phone! I've been hating Samsung now. For starters, yes the software is the most complete, but when talking about performance? The worst!
Updates also are the slowest of all custom Android of all time!
And finally, their beta programs are just sucks.
Good thing Huawei does not disappoint on these things. EMUI is not everyone's taste, but it's the fastest custom Android UI of all time, period.

PeterThePanda, 09 May 2018Yeah, that's why I avoid LG phones, not to mention their UI... moreOne does have to laugh at the US when it comes to accusations of privacy invasion of foreign countries/organisations. Companies in the US and its allies do this to their occupants to make money off them.

Its clear that the US is afraid of this and maybe this data being linked into identifying who is truly important in the structure of the government. Basically who, if turned could be a very useful asset to have for the opposition? The US is determined to strong arm its opposition in the BRICs and surround regions. After all unless a person is doing anything illegal, what good would their information be to such a strong powerful foreign firm? What so they can advertise personally to them? Its android, we have ways to block ads personal or not.

Kangal, 09 May 2018True... but its not about who did it first, its about who d... moreI think your first sentence hit the nail on the head. Its about who does/did it better. Android's navigation gestures outway Apples way of doing it. I'm running the pixel as a secondary device with iPhone X as a daily. Started using the P beta and its just so much faster and intuitive.

Before that was an argument that Apple could expect us to swallow when considering their high prices but for a long time now, the idea of it just works has become more in tune with it just doesn't work. Releasing software every year DOES NOT WORK. It creates more work for everyone involved and the finished product isn't worth our money or the vision attempting to be sold.

Project treble is going to take time to influence these numbers as intended.

Need the old handsets from users to be taken out of the picture. I think if we had stats from smartphones from 2015/2016 onwards, the picture would look significantly different because of Android's penetration into countries with lower spending power like the BRICS. Some folks from these types of countries don't have the money to upgrade to a phone supporting treble which makes it easier to update the phones for OEMs. Some of those people wouldn't even bother upgrading because they're happy with their gingerbread phone lol.

Imperator Neubaticus, 09 May 2018Samsung doesn't even need the new os features as they alrea... moreTrue... but its not about who did it first, its about who did it better.

For instance, Apple beat Android in the race to use Gestures as a navigation tool. Though the Gestures in the iPhone X really stinks, which is why there are many people upgrading to the vanilla iPhone 8 instead. Its probable that Android will follow Apple's lead here, and get rid of the on-screen Navigation buttons, but they would do it more intuitively/better.

*yes, I know Apple copied RIM's BBX Operating System in this regard.

And google releasing android p this year.

Samsung doesn't even need the new os features as they already implement similar and some even better ones. Google is just playing catch up at this point.

Shanti Dope, 09 May 2018Samsung will definitely update their high end phones, just ... moreYeah, that's why I avoid LG phones, not to mention their UI sucks.

For UI and software, I would prefer Sony except for the fact they don't have the XZ1 and XZ2 Compact officially available here unless you buy from grey markets (good luck getting it fixed without any official warranty). Pixel series is likewise not officially available, unless you buy from grey markets.

Between Samsung and Huawei, I'd go with Huawei for faster OS updates and more stable OS (mine is still as fast if not faster in some features with Oreo as it was with Nougat). I don't give a f%ck about those US misinformation about Huawei having spyware since it's kinda obvious that it's the US who are the biggest violators of privacy and users of backdoors as well as data collectors.

PeterThePanda, 09 May 2018Huawei seems to be doing good so far, updating their last 2... moreSamsung will definitely update their high end phones, just don't expect it to be as quick and as early as, say Google or Sony. Even Huawei will be faster than them.
They have to include all their stuff into the OS first before releasing it, 'cause their software is probably the most bloated one today.

About LG..........good luck even talking about it. LOL.

Sometimes, a lack of optimisation is present with the latest and greatest updates. Bugs are discovered that slipped through the cracks and before you know it, you're wishing that you had stuck to the old software that you knew and didn't frustrate you so much. Battery life can go down naturally as well. So its not all sunshine and rainbows.
