if htc addresses the direct visibility under sunlight or day time , from my experience of htc 10, and if by chance they bring the headphone jack back, htc may still become a class leader as it once was, i am truely a fan of what htc does, the software is second to google itself, built quality is also excellent

Also its there as an option, removing it doesn't provide any benefits to the phone but limits the user the wireless headphones. A dongle should not be necesarry for most users to use listen to media.

There is no reason for 3.5mm jack to exist anymore. Newer tech have long superseded the need for a low quality analog audio output.

Not that I can't afford to (I can), not that I don't need a new phone (I needed one for ages) but my M8 (not waterproof) is still in working condition so therefore I didn't buy a new HTC. I'm an HTC fan. I need a 3.5 jack, I need a more durable phone, I need a case (my dot view is fantastic) and I need a decent battery life (M8 has the original battery that still lasts a day or even more). I'm now immune to marketing gimmics, teasers, videos, wallpapers, leaks, advertorials. I could've bought at least 3 HTCs so far. Why didn't I? Because HTC made a good phone or didn't make better ones to justify purchase? I have doubts about this new one too. Fingers crossed.

USB C is just new, yet it already shows potential, by being better than 3.5mm jack in its prime.
Give the technology another 10 years or so to develop and we'll see.

If it had an aluminum body and a 3.5mm jack, I would have jumped onboard in a heartbeat. Even without the phono jack it would have been tough to pass up.
I like that HTC flagships excel in low light photography and videography, like no other brand. I'm tired of mushy images produced by the likes of Samsung, Google and Apple. Color accuracy means nothing, if the detail is lost in anything, but perfect lighting.
Having said that, photographic capabilities only partially sell a phone. We need a device that we'd still love a few years after purchase.
I don't think HTC realizes that if it doesn't excel in other areas, for quite a few of us, there are always DSLRs/DSLTs/DSLMs or a pocket sized Sony RX100 / Canon G7x available as specialized options. Obviously a phone with it's tiny sensor cannot even hope to come close to these devices in image quality.

Should have been priced more aggressively. Especially with ASUS' SD 845 device starting at $500 USD. They could have at least dropped it to $550 or $600 and people would have considered it for price/features ratio. This does nothing to dethrone Samsung or Apple/

Really sad to say but looks like this will be the last phone from HTC. Poor brand recognition, no 3.5 mm jack, kinda strange design and overall no unique selling point. If one has around 750 usd to spend on phone what would be the reason to choose U12+ until he is a die hard HTC fan?

HTC U Ultra released in april 2017 at 799 euros. Today, you can grab a new one for as much as 250 euros on ebay or amazon.
I think it says a lot about HTC brand recognition and their launch prices.

They have never carried it, nor has any other typical vendor. HTC used to be everywhere, now, nothing much at all. HTC will be lucky if they sell many of these, without more support.
I agree in regards to the other advertising, around S9 time, every store and carrier was flooded with posters etc. Same around Huawei P20 time, flooded. If HTC don't do much, then they will fail. And, lets be honest, it is not beating (based on rumours) any other phone, in any other department. To be in contention, it would need an area, or ares to excel in. Huawei beat it on price, battery size, camera (although I don't like their camera), Samsung tick all boxes/features and have the best screen (but not best screen shape). LG actually has a really nice portrait mode on the G7, but a battery that unnecessarily killed the device. Sony have a device size that "should" guarantee a good battery, but they instead chose to fill the innards with a pointless vibrator, which is twice the size of any other. The Pixel 3 will likely beat many in camera performance when it comes out.
Which makes me ask, why buy HTC?

Htc, lg can't expect people to buy their phones which are same price or more expensive than Samsung's which has better brand value. Yet they do it. They love being in red/loss I guess

In my mind the issue that HTC has is they don't bother advertising there phones. on the release of a new apple or samsung it's plastered everywhere on UK High streets. but HTC don't put up more than a small poster in a window for a week. there's no online advertising presence, no real world advertising, and no TV advertising. without those who aside from a die hard fan will know the phone exists or will even care. HTC used to have a contract with EE in the UK to stock there phones but they let that expire after the 10 so that's not helped either. at this point it seems like HTC just can't be bothered trying to sell there handsets.
