AnonD-468012, 13 May 2018Wide Angle, the reasons?

Camera 1: 12 MP monochrome + 1/2.3" ( 7.81mm diagonal) + 1.55 micron
Camera 2: 19 MP rgb + 1/2.3" ( 7.73mm diagonal) + 1.22 micron.
We can consider both sensors same size, difference is tiny. No matter pixel size, the monochrome sensor can absorb up to 3x more light than the color sensor of same size.
This is the idea behind it. Huawei uses software to merge the images, now Sony will be using hardware to do it.
It is not about black/white effects only.
When you have RGB + monochrome , it is like having 3 or 4 RGB sensors catching light.

If main point of taking shots/videos is to experience it again as seen by yourself, ...-wide camera should be what you want.
Though with narrow fov in comparison to human's 210 degree considered and sold as ''normal fov'', and with screen you watch it on taking just small part of your fov, it may be hard to acknowledge need of more wide camera.
Tele camera may be fun and needed in some situations, but VR is popular for reason - its closer to reality, so same as with VR, camera closer to reality is what will be more popular in the end.
But thats for main camera though, second cameras, no matter what kind, are usually of inferior quality to main cameras. So No for wide second camera, and yes for it being first. Yes for second as tele camera. Bring super wide main though(think widest main cam has sony?).

Both. Simple as that.

The perfect triple camera:
1) Main camera from the S9 (f1.5-f2.4 + Dual Pixel + OIS) with advanced pseudo-long exposure mode with frame stacking as seen on the P20 Pro
2) 2.5X Zoom camera for Telephoto & Potrait bokeh simulation
3) Ultra-Wide camera from the V30
B&W monochrome camera's without Bayer filters don't bring much to the table as the others.

Wide camera for sure !!! The zoom camera is a gimmick. If i have a 40 mp photo made with my new Huawei P20 Pro, i can simply zoom in digitally. The immense digital resolution will avoid to break easy the zoomed image.

All smartphones already have wide angle cameras (24 to 28mm equivalent) so a telephoto lens sounds like a better match. 24 and 85mm lenses are a classic prime pair in the photography world.

A telephoto camera is common in big brand smartphone since they are easy to advertise, but in reality it's really lackluster(narrow f stop, coupled with inferior sensor) unlike wide angle that is something usually the beholder can truly appreciate

Wide Angle, the reasons?
1. Google open the Pixel 2's Potrait Mode, so you can make the Blur effect just with 1 camera.
https://m.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_2s_portrait_mode_is_made_open_source-amp-30094.php
2. You do not really need 2nd Telephoto camera if the main camera has great sensor + OIS. It is should be still okay.
3. You do not really need 2nd BW filter camera if the main camera has great sensor + great HDR and multi frame algorithm.
4. Wide angle make more viewpoint and better framing. I know you can do it with Phanosphere aka 360 degrees panorama but still it is lack details and very low resolution.
That is it.

i voted ultra-wide because i take alot of landscape shots and like to video in this it gives you more of a feel for the area. But choosing betwee these 2 lens is crazy because they are so different.
Hopefully we will start to see some triple lens phones that can do all, Standard shot, ultrawide and telephoto.

Why the hell those companies add optical zoom on telephoto and not the main camera?
Most of people will use the 1st anyway. Both dont give same results because have different sensors, FOV and DOF.

G6 and V30 did not fix distortion.
They have less distortion because lens are not as wide as G5.
