I don't think small android oem have that kinda resource to provide monthly security update or os update.
Most of them(other than 2-3) making any direct profit from hardware ,average selling price of android phone is around $200-$250 they dont have $$ money like google /apple or microsoft have.

I highly doubt Samsung will be on the list. They are the worst when it comes to updates (like LG) - this being the main reason I never bought one.
Sony one the other hand is on parr with Google. They have EXCELLENT updates.
As for the china brands - who gives a rat's az? They're replika garbage that I would NEVER use. Paying for one is an abomination from my point of view..
If someone would ask me to recommend a good android flagship, my answer would be: "DON'T buy anything with a NOtch!" :))

And they've commited to update the top-range devices for two years since release, a long time ago, before Google pushed on that, and they've kept their word. You get a new security update within ten days from release. And if there's new Android released withing two years of device's release, you'll get the new OS. Apart from Pixels, no other brand get's them faster.

Been using Sony for six years now, so when I read in the news how only these days some other brand flagships are getting Oreo just now, it boggles my mind, I don't understand it. I get it they don't give a F, but at least update your last years flagship, ffs. We're talking about year old devices. Sony commited to pushing new OS for two years from the device's release a long time ago, and they've been holding on to that, for most of their devices, excluding some entry-level. The exception in the flagship range was only the Z3 as far as I know. It was supposed to get Nougat, they even released official AOSP, but because of the Google's requirements, Sony couldn't certify that chipset for Nougat, it was lacking latest Vulkan API, I think. A technicality, really, otherwise it would get the update. So a five year old Z3 was supposed to get it, but there are year old Samsungs out there still running MM/Nougat. That's sad.
I hope these new agreements and Google's requirements change this trend. But it's not just the OS fragmentation, it's the device model fragmentation as well. Just look at the sheer number of devices Samsung releases each year, it makes no sense, there's really no need for that, they have to slim down their product line and then it would be easier to actually develop and optimize the OS for those couple of devices.

Hahaha. Google cannot even have their top tier OEMs like Samsung, Sony, Motorola, etc to do this. Do they think those random Chinese OEMs would care?
The only way for Google to do this is if Google pay (subsidize) the OEMs to patch things. These OEMs are operating with razor thin margins, they don’t care about patching older phones since they make money by selling new phones.

I suspect it only applies to Google's certified devices. So I expect China phones won't be required to comply.

Seems only way of monthly updates of any kind is iPhone or pixel/esential, sad. On my LG g6 my last security update was on 1 January..
OEMS Dosent give a shit about buyers they just copy paste around, while bumping price every year, Huawei is the only non purist OEM that is innovate and offers updates in a way or other.
Atleast Nokia is aleardy doing what Google tries to do with such news.

...No, Google has done the bare minimum. It almost has done nothing to address the issue.
Why do you think Nexus, Pixel, and AndroidOne devices are popular?
It's not because they're better than the competition, its simply because it offers the best software support in the ecosystem and the value of the ecosystem is at an all time high (and getting bigger as competitors drop-off). If Google actually cared about fragmentation they would've made amendments to the GSE back in 2011 when they rolled out Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (which was a clean break from the legacy past of the ecosystem).
Google is notorious at half-baking things and killing off projects without much thought. See Tablets, AndroidTV, AndroidAuto, AndroidWear, Glasses, Tango, Ara, Hangouts, Google Wallet.... and the list goes on.
Yes, I use Googles services, in particular AndroidOS and the Android Market BUT THAT does not mean they get a pass when they stuff up, be lazy, or make mistakes. They are not perfect, far from it.
