For Android manufacturers, maybe paying for that license is better than unable to sell, so they give the money to Google.

      Another cash source.

silver jet, 08 Sep 2011Why don't Samsung and HTC make great products to make tons ... moremicro sd card slots, bluetooth file transfer, hdmi, dual core processors, high res screens, customization, widgets, 3d photos and videos, dlna, video calls over 3g and 4 g, 4g, video calls to products not made by Apple............I'd say they are focused on making good products. Just 12 examples of what Apple want be suing over. They don't offer it to their customers. But, let me guess, iphone users don't need it.

          ummm...i had both iphone4 and android(SGS) phones.
iOS is very simple, smooth, easy to use,not many things to do with iphone, after using it for a while it feels just an other old iphone, same iterface,menu....nothing new except games and apps.where as in android everyday ur phone feels new... like exploring new things, having full control over ur phone, also many good apps which r not available for iphone, changing anything u want,notifications...i loved it,itslike using new phone everyday.

i think apple should start concentrating on improving their produts as customer demands...not stoping other companies making good products and their pricing scheme for iphone's.SGS is cheaper than iphone with many good features, hardware.

im pretty sure it was apple who 1st sued over touchscreen capabilities, which in fact, they were not the 1st to make a touchscreen phone and are way off the 1st touchscreen device. it was then changed to "capacitive touchscreen capabilities".. nokia fired back by saying well we have all the patents for GSM capabilities so pay up.. and it just snow balled from there

It's good that HTC was able to purchase some key patents from Google in order to stay in business.

And now for some comments reply:
Kalevro: "...Steve found out that goldmine-LAZYNESS and he made the phone for lazy people/ which in the US are maybe 5/6 of the total population..."
Interesting... I find US among the most productive nation in the world (source: Wikipedia). They are among the most capitalistic nation with a rich capitalistic history. In essence capitalism tends to work people out to the max, so they don't have time to jailbreak/root their phones and install custom firmware. They just want that it works. And that is all the iPhone is about, and it should be that way! The only problem here is that iOS is also much more limited in functionality than Android (no widgets, custom launchers/keyboards, notification bar, some good apps,...).

lothar: "a correction in the article.... some of the patents owned by apple are actually purchased from small and nondescript companies......."
                CORRECT! :D
I may add that all do that, yes even Google!

andy: "If it weren't for jobs, android would have never existed and the industry wouldn't be what it is today."
One of few best comments ever!
Just remembered that in late 2006 I had an old Motorola Razor V3 and was going to buy something new. If it hadn't been for Apple I would've bought something from Nokia, like a dumbphone with flip-down keyboard or maybe if I had lots of cash I would buy a Nokia's smartphone with Symbian S60 v3 for 400 EUR (yes the NOW hated Symbian (it's NOT SymbianOS!)).
So with the iPhone movement I waited for something similar to be available in my country and then settled for Samsung's Galaxy S for 1 EUR. :D
(It's not like iPhone 4 but it was cheaper and it will do for now.)
So remember folks, if it weren't for Apple we would all still be using old Blackbery's and Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo would still milk you with Symbian S60 v5 phones and you all would still be very happy about it (look at old die-hard Nokia fans) and no there would be no radical change like Anna and Belle versions.
Sorry that you must read this, but this would be a fact if it would happen! :P

Thank god google has finally done something to stop the apple dictatorship.Send in nato to stop jobs and his evil brainwashed army.Competition is good for customers and i see that working in a phone shop.Everyone has different tastes and apple have to respect that and just to clarify apple are not the richest company in the world.I think that goes to G.E.C?

This is hardcore bullying and greed. I've never heard of such a company that's this greedy. I don't even hear them giving to charitable institutions knowing they're the richest company in the world.

Great for both HTC and Google. Apple are using cunning tactics and I'm glad to see papa google stepping in and lending a hand to such a superb company like HTC.

My brother sold his $2600 iMac after learning more about Apple's legal attacks and says his mobile is the next Apple device to switch away from. His next tablet will be windows based as well. Phasing out all the Apple based on principle.
