Too late for Mi 7 ??? How could it be too late for MI 7? It does not make sense Mi Mix 2S to take advantage of the improvements of this new division, being that it has already been released, and MI 7 does not take advantage, and it has not been released yet. That does not make any sense.

The culprit of poor quality of Xiaomi phone camera is not its old sensor. Indeed the sensor is old and not so great. But old Samsung and others did much better picture than Xiami with such old sensor.
Key is software and quality control. Samsung had separate camera business division, which produced affordable compact and DSLR cameras and now absorbed by smartphone division. It boasted excellent lens performance and leading-edge smart features like networking touch screen. Its experience and expertise in camera business helped Samsung to stand out of bunch of Android phone competitors. Xiaomi also needs such expertise.
I recommend Xiaomi to buy and merge some small Japanese camera business division like CASIO camera division, which closed its business recently. Or minors likes Ricoh or Pentax. Recently Japanese camera businesses are hit very hard with advent of smartphone and on brink of collapse. Compact camera market is collapsing literally and reduced to 1/10 of few years ago. It good time to buy their optical business expertise at meager price.

4K (and virtually every video) on my brother's Mi 5S is pretty much unusable because it's so shaky next to my old Xperia Z5 Premium.
So much for having the "same sensor as the 2016 Pixel"...

I have suggested to test front camera.
They dont test 4K videos and only auto mode.
Manual is where you extract all power.
How can they judge if settings are different?
I have seen that in many situations the P20 beats P20 Pro, mainly if HDR is off.

What is impressive to you, for me its 2 cameras for one fov, isp, ais, big sensor, color spectrum sensor, stacking, hdr, any new uniqe hw or sw function, And real world performance. Even overal dxo score not as that is just average of selected abilities/functions, with some that can be worse(main cam quality), some leading for they are new(zoom/bokeh 300% better) and some not counted(amount of captured detail, trueness/deformations by interpolation, AR functions, how easy is camera launching and taking shots, how fast/easy can you change between camera modes, selfie camera/s quality, audio quality in video, how is fov of back/front camera more true to life, how broad is manual/pro mode,...).
Being impressed with common specs is just...

Mi5 same sensor of V20 and 3T.

Xiaomi is using better sensors than LG. The G7 ThinQ uses the same of HTC U Play

Finally, don't understand why it took so long, most likely wanted to build some cash in the bank.
If they have flagship quality cameras like Apple Samsung and Google they will for sure be a big sellers. Just look at what Huawei has done!

Can't really complain over the camera in my Xiaomi Mi5. It's fast, UI is simple and fast and it makes really nice photos. I had Huawei Ascend P7 before and it made amazing photos as well. It's really hard to buy a higher end phone that would make bad photos these days.

Shanti Dope, 14 May 2018And with this, I hope they would FINALLY fix the microphone... moreAlso, they must move on onto more powerful upcoming Snapdragon 700 series to add 4k at 60fps and more powerful processing photos and videos.
And stereo audio recording...
Midrange phones don't have this because they will just add, as what you have said, extraterrestrial recording.
And lastly, put a bigger 1/2.5" sensors for low light!
I know Xiaomi can do this!

With bokeh and optical zoom even low ends can score near 100 on DxO now.
I doubt Mix 2s would score even 85 if protocol was never changed.
Check top 10, only P20 and Pixel dont have telephoto.

And with this, I hope they would FINALLY fix the microphone issue on my Redmi 5 Plus and many other Xiaomi phones.
Whenever I try to record a video, the audio sounds like an extraterrestrial creature coming.
Come on, I'm not expecting flagship level mics, but there is a serious problem that is only caused by poor software.
Microphone call quality ain't a problem, so it's definitely not a hardware issue.
And if they may, they can try to improve the low light image quality of my phone. Again, not flagship level, but I certainly expect a lot more with the hardware. 1.25um should be enough to give good low light pictures, given that even an iPhone 6s with similar hardware can take bright and detailed ones.

Awesome. Now make cameras that will score 85 below on your Mi A3 or above next time because I really need a better camera on a budget friendly phones.
