Galaxy S10 might get an in-house under display fingerprint reader

14 May 2018
Samsung has reportedly completed development on a more accurate ultrasonic reader instead of relying on an optical reader.

Can't wait for Apple to say they came up with this tech on X V.2. Even Vivo have came up with an implementation of this tech, before the big players.

I know this is not going to sound well with all the people who praise the feature of all screen phones, but what was wrong with the physical home button with built in scanner ?

It was very natural and made for a nice UI experience since you don't need on screen buttons, Also having a physical touch response just feels more pleasing for some people and it's the best way to wake up your phone if let's say it sits on a flat surface.

Shanti Dope, 14 May 2018Idk what's the problem with backside fp scanner or power bu... moreI agree that power button sensors are good. Sony has done those (although they don't work on the US versions of phones), but I've never understood having to turn your phone over to the back to unlock it, and then turning it back over to use it. I mean, if you're actually holding the device in your hand, it works decently, but if you're not holding it, it's worthless. I would end up just using the passcode instead of the sensor most of the time, which defeats the point of having the feature in the first place. I'd be excited for an under-display sensor.

Shanti Dope, 14 May 2018Idk what's the problem with backside fp scanner or power bu... moreI think main point is, since fingerprints used to be on front, and screen continue to get bigger and bigger, the only way to return it to front of device is by getting it Under display.

I think it's pretty nice, but problably will raise price - a lot.

They need something out of the ordinary on the Note 9. If it's going to be an S9 with a pen, I might just try out one of them there Lenovo's this year. That is if Lenovo keeps their promise to not force their horrible iPhone UI on the international version.

Same story at every Samsung flagship release for the last few years.

I bet even Samsung Note 10 won't get under display fingerprint scanner.

Idk what's the problem with backside fp scanner or power butron fp scanner though.
Ultrasonic is nice for better security (and maybe even better speeds too) but the scanner doesn't really have to be under the display.
Sounds cool, that's the only reason I know for having it like that.
And what if the display shatters or gets broken??
Will it still work? Can the scanner itself be replaced or the whole display should be replaced? Mostly, how much will it cost?

I'm betting more on JDI's glass fingerprint scanner, as it works for any type of display instead of just on OLED.
That, and the newly discovered 'self-healing' glass will be the best version of screen-embedded fingeprirnt scanner.

One more thing we don't really need that will make flagship phones even more expensive....

Samsung already finished this feature, but they want to perfected it for more seemless and secure experience.
Alright! Good thing I'm not really hyped on the Note 9.
