People nowadays care more about the power efficiency and increased battery life from the phone, which is why this 710 only got increased power efficiency.
At least, it's still quite difficult to achieve both, unless the chipset itself gets manufactured in 7nm, which can easily provide both increases.

No promise on performance improvement? Well, current SD660 is certainly fulfilling the real world demand (PUBG on high + HD graphics settings runs smoothly with no performance degradation for continuous play over 30 minutes), but a little more gain won't hurt.

hopefully it'll be on a more broader availability than snapdragon 660. that thing is rare and quite pricey for the price they ask for.
