In contrast i can boldly say that Xiaomi is a ripoff company , Also when you say all companies these days are ripping off Apple I think you are referring to Oppo , Vivo , Oneplus , Xiaomi and all the other Chinese clones.
Nokia did one phone with a notch and you already clinged on their back when a company like Xiaomi has been doing it for 8 years consecutively in terms of both hardware and software.

Who the idiot decided to make the front all white. It so thick too at 8.75mm. The bezel too still thick even with the notch design. The bezel less phone is done all wrong. The notch software poorly made. Look at that bluetooth symbol almost hidden behind the notch a bit. The camera at the back too bulging too much and so big. This better be $50 budget notch phone. That is how much the ugliness worth paying for.

IPhone X from the f... moreWhen i watched some reviews of redmi note 5 i saw one video where was tutorial how to wrap the phone to look like iphone with the correct text and side look :D
But well it's still a nice brick with nice price i got it and fast delivery was too.
There are there 3/32GB versions with a price of 150 euro range with ugly colors gold and rose gold. Why bother to buy even Redmi S2 cause it's same SD625 like note 5 plus but with dual rear cameras. Price difference is only 20-40 euro so whats the point. This big shin and then that notch to save space from body for screen makes no sense too.

Also since when did university become demonstration of design proficiency? Dieter rams and jony Ives are from no name universities and they have accomplished more than any wannabe designer from anywhere could think of..
Every one is aping Apple these days, Nokia included (or Nokia did notches before Apple). So why not follow the trends...

Xiaomi couldn't help them self they ALLWAYS wanted to make a notch they just didn't know how so they copied other stuff (camera placement,UI)
one of (if not THE) worst notch phones ever look at the UI look at the bluetooth and watch icons cutout by the good looking iPhone ish rounded corners
now with Xiaomi knowing the (NOT so) secret notch recipe I expect EVERY SINGLE Xiaomi phone to have a notch
Apple do us a favor and make a true bezeless so we can have bezeless Android phones with reasonable prices
