It's very likely that all Scandinavian countries will get the firmware too.

Shadocx, 31 May 2018I already told you I played PPSSPP on SD 801 on a Sony Xper... moreWell, as someone who always ran emulators from Atari, Sega, NES, SNES, GBA, N64, PSX, and DosBox... all able to run on 2011 devices. This is all I emulated on my NOTE 3, since I was let down by the performance of the higher tier emulation.

I used the ZTE Axon 7 for QSD 820 emulation, and it was far-ahead of the Note 3 in performance. By this time, 2015, Dreamcast and DSi emulation became possible, not because of the hardware improvements, but the software improvements.
The PSP emulator was running back in 2015 but it was still a WIP (Select devices, select settings, on select titles: It wasn't stable). It pretty much got perfected in 2017. Back in 2015 it was running on

I've always wanted to carry around Dreamcast, DSi, PSP, PS2, GameCube, and Wii Emulators too but it wasn't possible during the QSD800-era. And even with a Exynos 8890; PS2, GameCube, and Wii emulators were not possible at all. Now?
These three emulators are running (good-ish) on the OnePlus 6 and other QSD 845 devices.

I think in 2019 is when Wii Emulation will get perfected. However, the Nintendo Switch emulation is probably next inline, maybe in 2020 (?). Whereas the Nintendo Wii U and PS3 emulation remain elusive because of their higher performance requirements... probably not ported until at least 2022 (though I'd like to be proven wrong, especially when considering the performance of the Cortex A76 and A11-Bionic).

I'm not sure we're talking about the same PSP emulator...
              You're probably talking about Damon PS2, PS2 isn't PSP...
SD 845 has A75 and A55 cores, how could a Exynos 8890 be more powerful?
Anyway, It's my money, and I'll be buying only devices with Snapdragon.

Shadocx, 30 May 2018It's too late I sold it, why do I need to do that when my X... moreI don't know dude.
When I tried and compared the QSD 820 to the Exynos 8890 version, initially I was in Team Qualcomm. I thought the Android Ecosystem was still more Single-Threaded biased, so the Kyro (modified Cortex A57 cores) with their higher IPC would be better performance, and also save battery life by getting rid of unnecessary cores.

Later, when I realised you can unlock the boot, root, and customise the Exynos version I thought there was potential. I later found Anandtech's article which pretty much concluded that the Exynos had higher performance AND lower battery use, I was sold. However, I tried running the experimental builds of PSP and GameCube emulator in Early 2017 and they didn't run well (~4fps). Whereas they were running at double the speed (~9fps) on the Snapdragon 820 version. So if you base your opinion on that pathetic unoptimised and bloated early performance, then you've been mislead.

                  Now?
The stable version of the same PSP and GameCube emulators, with the same titles run a decent 20-40fps on the Exynos version. After I flash a more optimised rom, tighten the scheduler and allow it to overclock lightly... its running >40fps. Compared to the Sony XZ2, which is the slowest QSD 845 phone currently, and that device is running around 50-60fps. Software Performance is much more important than Hardware Performance, which is why the new Nokia AndroidOne devices seem enticing.

Trust me, there's nothing wrong with the Exynos 8890... its around ~10% slower than the QSD 845 (the fastest chip) in practical use, but it does consume around ~10% more battery life too. Logically speaking, that would mean a QSD 845 phone should cost +19-21% more money, but it doesn't, you need to pay x2/double to make the upgrade. Only the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 (a rebranded 670) is able to bring competition to the E8890, with the QSD 835/845 being a level higher than the Exynos.

The only things I'll miss from Samsung are sAMOLED display and great camera, I don't need the rest.

Kangal, 30 May 2018You got a defective unit, twice. Lol, just kidding. The ... moreBack in 2017 PSP and gamecube emulation wasn't quite possible? I ran PSP DBZ games on a SD 801 device at 30/60 fps in 2015 lol, you meant in 2013 maybe?
And most SD 835 phones ran gamecube well depending on games, racing games and FPS games had more struggle.
I actually tried Dolphin on my S7 Edge this year, I never got over 7 fps with OpenGL and all games crashed with Vulkan, burnout and NFS games were running at like 18 FPS but 30/60 FPS for DBZ games.
Exynos 8890 has same performance as the SD 845? LOL, are you serious?
What do u mean by early 2017? isn't the Exynos 8890 in 2016 devices and the SD 845 in 2018 devices?
I know it had a great camera, screen etc, what I'm complaining about is the lag in the UI and bad performance in emulators.
I know SalsTech's channel, and from what I see all devices with Mali GPUs perform bad compared to Snapdragon.

Shadocx, 30 May 2018Stop praising Exynos S7 like a god...I sold my S7 Edge Exyn... moreWell, I don't use a Samsung, but you can always root the phone and just debloat it without flashing a different ROM.(delete unnecessary apps and features you don't use). But make sure not to delete anything that might cause a bootloop.
Sony has Xperia companion program which brings back the phone from the dead in case you bootloop. I don't know what Samsung uses, buy I'd like to know also because I'm thinking of jumping boats and buying an S8+.
Sony is great, but ditching the 3.5mm is a catastrophic decision.
I'm never going to buy a china replika brand, so I'm left only with Samsung or HTC..

Israel is still stuck in nougat for S7E and standard S7. >_>

Shadocx, 30 May 2018Stop praising Exynos S7 like a god...I sold my S7 Edge Exyn... moreYou got a defective unit, twice. Lol, just kidding.

The fact is the old Underclocked Snapdragon 820 chipset is pretty great, and still runs faster than the newcomer Snapdragon 660. And both the QSD 820 and QSD 660 (heck, even the midrange QSD 636) run rings around the older 32-bit Snapdragon 805. The even slower Snapdragon 801 and 800 are no match. Even "upgrading" up to the unoptimised QSD 808 and QSD 810... these are still no match for the QSD 636, let alone the Exynos 8890.
However, even after Overclocking the Snapdragon 821 it is both slower and more power-hungry than the Exynos 8890.

So we should praise Samsung and the Exynos 8890 for having almost the same performance of the Snapdragon 845, only in Early-2017. And it was in a very nice phone, which has a great camera and screen and body and waterproofing. The old S7-Exynos is still a flagship by today's standards.

Back in 2017, PSP and Gamecube emulation wasn't quite possible on phones. The QSD 821 had a slight advantage because the emulator was more optimised for Snapdragon phones instead of Exynos. Now?
The emulators have matured greatly, and we even have proper Vulkan support. The games and titles that were running at 4fps are now running at 50fps on the same phone. And I should also mention that, between the S7-QSD and S7-Exynos, today it is the S7-Exynos that is running PSP God of War fullspeed, with sound, and no frameskip. But if you really want to do emulation, skip all that and get a OnePlus 6. See SalsTech tutorials and benchmarks on YouTube (we're almost at perfect Nintendo Wii emulation, and the Wii U/Switch will be the next targets for mobile, by 2024).

So yeah, the culprit was the software. That's why OnePlus devices run so well despite having far less optimisations than the GalaxyS devices; the software is just simpler and cleaner.

Kangal, 30 May 2018This is good news for Custom ROM developers, and for people... moreStop praising Exynos S7 like a god...I sold my S7 Edge Exynos only after one year, and I usually switch every 2 years.
That thing was so laggy, how can a Exynos 8890 octa core 64 bits cpu performs worse than a Snapdragon 801 quad core 32 bits, it is the Samsung's UI's fault? Idk, but I sold it, no time to find out.
Don't tell me I had a defective unit, I had 2 S7 Edge and both performs this bad, unless I got the worst luck ever.
Also it was very bad in emulators in both PPSSPP and Dolphin.
And look at this, they took so long to release Oreo!
