First of all it means you lose space in the notification bar.
Second is that you asid from the space that is taken from the top you don't even use it that much.
Watch a video and you won't notice.
Play a game and a lot don't use the space around it either.
And yes you can just turn it off but that means you would eventually (on an amoled screen) get a part of the the screen dimming down through normal use and a a part of the screen that is good as new because it has almost never been used.
I rather have the pixel 3 over the xl because it has a bigger speaker at the top.
I want the days of 2 front firing speakers back and the pixel 3 would be my way to go.

I have every confidence in Googles cameras. If the 3 has smaller bezel than last years P2 then i might go for it. Some bezel is welcome but last years was a bit too much. The frame needs a smoother transition from glass to frame, and no full glass back. Messy things full glass backs are. Eager to see this and the new Nokia

I'm pretty sure the average size of phones has actually gone up since the emphasis on thin bezels; the typical 6 inch 18:9 setup is usually as long as the LG V10/V20, and those were considered very large phones before.

It's baffling when people look at a skinny phone and the first thing that comes to mind is: "look at the size of those bezels! Ugh!". As a tech geek, we need bezels; like them or not but folks that know nothing of technology that would spend thousands of dollars on phones without knowing or caring why they are priced that way are apparently controlling how phones are designing everything.
Considering how much I'm against the notch, if the smaller variant is around a 5.8", I'll aim for that. Otherwise, I'll look to see what Razer and ZTE are going to come out with before pulling this trigger.

We don't hate bezels btw, because then we would not be using any phone at all since no phone has absolutely no bezels just yet.
We just want to shrink the overall size of the phone yet still get the same screen estate.
I would say, the LG G3 of 2014 actually has a good balance of bezels, maybe just a tad thinner and it will be perfect.
The best implementation of bezel less is the LG G6. Just shave a little bit of its bottom chin and it will be perfect.
Heck, even the XZ2 is perfect for it. The S9 is also good, but they seriously have to remove the curved sides.
To sum up, we don't hate bezels. We just want less of them since having less of them doesn't reduce the usability of the phone in any way.

There should be some dead/non capacitive area to place your finger... bezellessness will be very inconvinient. Also less side bezels lead to palms touching the screen... i think phones should have min 3mm bezels at the side.
