Great news for my RN3P, looking forward for the update and all the new features

Anonymous, 01 Jun 2018Ok so what exactly are you getting with new Android version... more- New emojis are only being introduced through NEW Android versions. For instance, 7.0 is missing a good number of skin tone color options compared to 7.1.1.
                - Some exploits and vulnerabilities can only be addressed with a new Android version.
                - Some important updates to how Android functions. For instance, Oreo has a new Autofill Framework that is NOT supported in Nougat and below. This Autofill Framework is important for the likes of Lastpass and accessibility apps. Oreo also has SIGNIFICANTLY better support for Bluetooth codecs and functionality. https://android.gadgethacks.com/news/27-cool-new-features-changes-android-8-0-oreo-0176682/

On my phone I have none of Google services activated. More accurately, they're uninstalled and an alternative is used whenever possible.

With makers making it harder to root and disable Google I'm reluctant to upgrade :)

I don't know of the 30-seconds-to-camera issue has been fixed yet..

MIUI forums are one of the most active dev forums, you can submit your issue and might get a fix in weeks.

Back in MIUI 4 days, some issues got fixed in a week or so. I had it as a custom ROM back then, and I still think it's one of the best android overlays out there.

H-1, 02 Jun 2018I know their approach is close to apple's (yet better if yo... moreSo, does this mean that I made the right choice by picking up a Redmi 5 Plus instead of more popular and expensive phones that I could also afford when I bought this, such as the Huawei Mate 10 Lite / Honor 7x and Oppo F5 Youth?
I picked up this phone because out of the three, this is the cheapest yet somehow offers the best of what I'd actually need and use in a phone (large battery, most efficient chipset of the three, IR Blaster), but I was initially worried that they would cut corners on some necessary but unnoticeable ways.

Right now, my only problem is that the noise cancellation system for audio and video recording is horrible, with lots of audible compression artifacts from loud sounds.

But as an end user, xiaomi doesn't force me to use their paid services, I could always use Google's. Yet I get to have updates, that's a win/win to me. And when I upgrade I'll stay in the same familiar system, yet you can easily migrate to any android phone.

Apple doesn't allow alternative services, and switching to android is a hassle, plus you'll lose quite some money when you leave your paid apps.

For them, they want their customers to keep their phone(or upgrade a phone within their brand) as long as they can, since Xiaomi doesn't gain much on phone sale, rather they gain more profit from miui+3rd party services, so it make sense for them to update miui

MD Bhoraniya, 01 Jun 2018No update for note 5 pro??? This is a Chinese announcement, the Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched as the Redmi Note 5 in China, where the Redmi Note 5 in India is sold as the Redmi 5 Plus in China. In any case, all three of these phones will definitely receive the update.
