2.5 GHz quad-cores by the end of this year!
Nokia will release their first WP7 by the end of this year, and WP7 can still only handle 1 core.
Why buy a dual-core iPhone5 when you can buy a quad-core Android before the end of this year, and that will not be more expensive than iPhone5?

I don't think people should be so quick to judge this. Folks keep on calling it cores for mobile phones, you people are talking about devices for 2006 maybe, but hybrid devices like the Samsung galaxy note which is more phone than tablet justify the size for bigger core power and the term phone is no longer applicable. Those also claiming quadcore will suck up juice really need to do thier homework, single cores are more likely to be energy inefficient. We are moving into the era where tablet and phone will almost be amalgamated into one device and people who insist on no need for so many cores fear change. The future is unpredictable and rest assured technology will not stop evolving for the neanderthal few who still think a phone can be called a phone anymore. Get with the times. Anything is possible.

as long as the chipset is from qualcomm....I dont think i will use the mobile that its equipped with it. But im just thinking what if humingbird chipset with quadcore processor with clorked at 2.5 ghz or more with quad GPU new powered SGX series...Oh man
that would be a desktop replacement....I hope the samsung does the project of my dream

I think it's a good ideea to push the limits of the CPU+GPU because this is progress ,in 1998 did any of you ever think you will need a quad-core CPU for your PC ??
Progress with the specs will deliver even better graphics and effects for our apps/games and even more eye-candy [ie. Sense 3/3.5] for our devices with great performance !
I know what many of you are talking about ...the prices going nuts ,no app needs dual-quad cores right now ...but progress is eventually going to happen ,WHAT ? did you REALLY think that smartphones will remain at 600mhz and 128ram like Nokia maintained them for all these years ???

i personally dont see the point of quadcore for mobile phones for now.
                      maybe for future tablets yes.

such a thing will just be beautiful on a spec sheet but as far as performance is concerned there wont be a real change, especially if it gonna be out shortly.
even now the mobiles are not even making use of the two cores available in certain phones.
its not just about numbers but how well the phone utilize that power

I think mobile phones dont't need more than two cores. But tablets must need quad core in order to grab market share from their main opponent like Nettop or Laptop. With these quad cores (cpu/gpu) tablet pc can run more powerfull OS within them (i.e Linux or Windows8). If they also gets HDMI output capability so that we can use our HD tv as a PC monitor. Then we can enjoy HD movies & Hard core games like NFS, GTA etc very easily. Working with Photoshop or Macromedia Flash will be not impossible with such configuration. And if somebody doesn't like to playing games or working with multimedia suites by using the tablet's touch keyboard or navigation keys, i think thats not a serious problem at all. Like bluetooth headphones, we just need support for bluetooth keyboard & mouse. If such a tablet come to the market then nettop or laptop will become history. :-)

Question is about power tdp / battery capacity / size !

                              must be compressed :)

AnonD-16060, 16 Sep 2011Do you need a quad-core for seamless gaming ALONE??? A quad... moreAnd you can't multi-task with a 1,5ghz double-core ? The only real good novel is that it will - normally- have more power-efficiency.
Or maybe, in the long term, with a lapdock like these of the Atrix, a double or quad core with 2 or 2,5 Ghz can be usefull, if we can replace an ultra-portable computer.

And for english...have you thought he could not be english ? Maybe it is not a matter of time...sorry but there are - still - people whose mother tongue is not english... Me, for example.

I think its great that all this chip and processing tech is coming out. But can someone tell me so far what has dual core in tablets really brought us? I mean Google is already on to the next thing which is quad core tablets and phones but so far what has dual core really brought apart from maybe a longer battery. There is nothing in the market that really pushes dual core. So from a phone makers point of view its great but from a consumers point of view what do we really get out of it?
