03 June 2018
Before smartphones, PocketPC and Windows Mobile was popular. In the smartphone era, however, Microsoft failed to capture the market.

Samarth N8 808 user, 03 Jun 2018Sometimes, I feel Stephen Elop was just there to kill Nokia... moreThis is my theory to. Nokia and it's symbian/meeGo os's were the only big players that actually made money out of building innovation and not cloning your data. That is why, they had to "go". A very typical american business model. Kill the opponent to be able to sell the crapp you sell. So nokia started to be bashed by moro's that appeard from nowhere. Nobody knew them, but all sheep believed them. By crapple and groogle, then.microsoft gave them the final hit. Windows phone. It's becoming more clear it was never there to go up, but to kills the company. Rebooted for 3 times getting reed of more and more people with each and every "update". At the end, the problem is not cause of this corporations. The problem is: at the end the sheep user helps them grow, without realising how dagerous a "monopolistic" corporation can become.

YouTube was a free thing, where people had fun, now is bought by google.and became a disperate full wannabes that want to affim them selves so they can make a buck. Android and google are s'it, and google's youtube app is the biggest shit i have ever used Oh thanks God there is Newpipe that actually can.play music in the background. Ah,when.i think, the great apps windows phone had for youtube. One had to be dumb to.even think about google making an.official app. A lacking crapp full of adds vs pure greatness like myTube

AnonD-152638, 06 Jun 2018Well exactly Nokia had lost its status as a big brand, by t... moreWhat? So'me people talk not to shut up. Microsoft killed Nokia by not updating their system. The windows phone users, were only Nokia users that had to jump from symbian. 90% of windows phone users were actually Nokia fans. Microsoft never stood up in front of Nokia. Their system was lacking and they never bothered. The Nokia hardwere needed a better system, and not the other way arround. I liked windows phone a lot, fresh start, fresh system, new ideas. But microsoft was never at updating, including futures and innovation further. They just stood flat until the system dyied by it self. So, do not even include the Name nokia in Windows downfall, Microsoft was the only problem, not the apps, not the tiles but the brand within it self that newer gave a s'''t about mobile devision killing a great brand and a good system, that had a good start, with their arrogance.

Such an efficient and Powerful + Unique OS.
                  Windows Mobile 10 failed.
If Microsoft would work on windows phone 8.2.. (something) with more app development, few UI changes. Then windows phone might still alive with more WP USERS.
Still I love lumia (My Companion).

Windows phone finally died when they promised windows 10 for every windows phone 8.1 compatible devices but ultimately updating like 8 devices that weren't released with windows 10 pre-installed. I have been a loyal fan of windows, i had samsung Omnia, samsung Focus, nokia 520, 525, microsoft 535, from windows mobile 6.1 to windows phone 8.1. My last phone was Samsung ativ SE, a flagship, with s800, 2 GB RAM, perfectly capable hardware to run windows 10, it was promised too, but wasn't delivered. That's when windows phone died for me. I am sure for a lot of others too. They wanted to sell new phones, but there weren't any particularly good new phones, all budget phones, Microsoft 535 had terrible touch issues, most had only 1Gig RAM woth S200 chipset, horrible, needless to say. And high end was a few, Microsoft 950, 950 XL, none was which was appealing to me. so yeah, no particularly good phones and too much cost saving in budget phones in also a reason why windows phone died.

Iskander, 03 Jun 2018Nokia not being a big brand? Only a few years before Window... moreWell exactly Nokia had lost its status as a big brand, by the time Microsoft relied on the sales of Nokia units for the WP platform.
So no, by that time Nokia was no longer a big brand.
And Nokia had lost most of it's status even before they killed Symbian, they weren't exactly popular anymore.
They were still shipping a lot of units, but they weren't considered an exciting brand. And due to the absence in the US, they got little exposure in TV, Film and Music videos... that did not help either. Their flagship devices did not make a mark. But they had some solid lower end smartphones offerings.

So Microsoft needed support from Big brands, and Nokia wasn't anymore, and had not really been the type of brand MS would have needed for some years, even.

Windows was a viable OS with a small but sustainable marketshare. That idiotic Indian CEO Satya Nadella killed Windows on phone to save a few bucks and pad his numbers. He doomed Microsoft.

Johnny, 03 Jun 2018Had a Nokia 735 Lumia, couldn't get snapchat, couldn't get ... moreThe only app problem I had on my phone was skype not working anymore even thought its owned my MS.
Youtube and Instagram were working before, don't know if they stopped later on.

It's sad to see Windows Phone Failing. Windows phone 7 when launched was way ahead in terms of user experience than Android at that time. Although microsoft had done some stupid things at launch like omit it copy, paste, direct USB transfers and all but still my first Windows phone 7 phone i.e. samsung focus with 512MB Ram used to kick galaxy s2 @ss with twice as much processing power and RAM in everything else. Apps used to launch at rocket speeds, never used to hang, IE browser on phone was a champ as it was much better optimized than android stock or any other 3rd party browsers available on droid.

Next came my second phone with windows 8 i.e. Lumia 520, which was amazing value for money. Got it for like $50 i think, and again can hold its own with measly 512MB RAM when compared with much expensive droid costing 3-4 times more with twice or thrice the processing power and RAM.

My Final purchase Nokia 640, again got it for $40 in a deal having Windows 8 upgradable to windows 10. Although the phone was good in its own right but now Android has caught up Windows phone in User experience especially since Marshmallow. Now cheaper droids like in $100-$150 range can offer acceptable user experience. With better app support in Android and lack of interest in windows phone, users have no option but to switch to droid.

Faliure of Windows Phone just proves that all good products don't become successful. Not sure what Microsoft could have done differently. They kind of did everything, built a good product, priced it right, gave incentives to app developers but people still wouldn't adopt it and prefer to stuggle with Droid just becoz there friends/family had it (sheep mentality)

I've not gone into comparison with iOS here, unlike Android, iOS has always been a good product since the beginning but its way too expensive so it would not had been fair comparison.

Vikas, 05 Jun 2018It was a very clean OS with only one flaw that was the less... moreThey just stop developing the W10 mobile platform despite the small but enthusiastic community. Then they stopped selling phones (which were great devices, with high end oled screens back in 2011). It's a pity but Microsoft killed the platform themselves...

Microsoft is a monopolistic company who tried to do a Windows on the cellfone market. The buried Nokia and tried to force people to adopt the Windows platform instead of further developing the Nokia OS Symbian. Don't try and brainwash us by telling the world it was outdated. Android had many faults early in its development but was improved yearly. You royalty fees steals from developers.
