This is the first gaming phone done absolutely right, and by that I mean the accessories. I hope that Razer follows suit quickly, because I prefer their design philosophy.

Front and side design looks like a tcl/alcatel phone design. Same dual speaker, charger port, head phone jack, sim tray and front cam, the side port is the only new addon. Dont think the accessoreis will sell that good, the phone is going to be priced high, and most budget wont allow for them.

"The price hasn't been announced yet but the device will go on sale some time in the third quarter. Now, there's no doubt the phone is impressively specced, even if you don't plan on playing any game. However, the whole gamer aesthetic and silly brandings are as kitsch as they get. Secondly, the gaming scene on Android isn't exactly exploding, with most of the games on the store being of the casual kind that won't benefit from the various controller accessories in anyway. The more challenging titles are few and far between and also don't need a powerhouse device to run. Most of the titles also don't run above 60Hz as we saw with the Razer Phone, so the 90Hz refresh rate will only really be useful while navigating the phone's menus. Lastly, it's likely none of this is going to be cheap, so the whole value proposition is already out the window. And having a whole ecosystem of accessories around one phone has never really worked well. There is no guarantee these will be compatible with future ASUS ROG phones or if there even will be any future ROG phones. So to expect people to drop a considerable amount of money on these with no guarantee for the future seems a bit much. So, yeah, A for effort. Just not sure if it was necessary." you will find only casual games as a majority of android games. Mobile games can't reach the level of console level. This device at most becomes a niche device.

And no, i don't think a 3rd console will do any good, just remember the steam console,
especially coming from asus, they might cannibalize their own budget gaming laptop sale
Launching a new console is no easy feat, it require a lot of partnering with developer unlike pc where pretty much standardize and also a lot of investment that won't necessarily pay itself back even if the console sale like hotcake, in fact the more a console is sold, the more these manufacture lose money(ie. Sony and Microsoft sale their console at loss to reduce price)

They could have used all this effort in bringing a gaming console to challenge the likes of PS4 and XBOX or bringing a portable player like Nintendo. Gaming phones are a waste, with no hopes of a success.

Ash, 04 Jun 2018Really cool looks. But sadly as gsmarena said the games on... moreI agree. I have been a Android user for the past 6 years and started spending on paid games only in the last 3 years. I am glad that I decided to pay for excellent games like The Bard's tale, Monument Valley, Agent A among a few others. The gaming experience offered by these games was far greater than any free game or games with in-app purchase model.
Moreover, I like games which have a good story-line and has a end over casual never ending games.
I do not know much about the newer releases as I rarely spent any time on gaming of any sort since over a year now. Not that I lost interest in gaming. I just didn't have the time to spare between work and studies. But I would definitely invest in such a phone and buy worthy titles when I start gaming again. Probably the successor of this phone with a 7nm SOC. :D Thus, I am rooting for the success of this phone so that Asus releases a successor in future.

Great, now this is what I call true gaming phone. Asus is brave enough to go all out in this one, unlike Razer and Xiaomi which I fell just like another flagship. However, I'm not sure about the pricing. I'm sure it will be very expensive.

Wow, it's good to see a high-end phone with something other than the standard speed Snapdragon 845. Seems like every device is using it these days. Nice to see someone do something a bit different..
