10 June 2018
Qualcomm's Snapdragon seems everywhere, but is it more popular than MediaTek's Helio? Or Samsung's Exynos?

A11 outpreforms snapdragon in every aspect and Kirin is best in AI.

H-1, 10 Jun 2018Exynos is good on Samsung devices, it's optimized for them,... moreeven Samsung doesn't utilize their latest M3 cores on 9810 that well. It has bad scheduler and get constrained fast due to high thermal and humongous power consumption

AnonD-731363, 10 Jun 2018Oh man really? But i can easily prove you are wrong as always. sure, show me your data where A11 or Kirin 970 perform well in sustained workload, or maybe in term of performance per wattage. mind you this is mobile SoC that we're talking about. where CPU, GPU, temperature, and battery life are taken into account, not just the CPU.

Even Xiaomi who only had 4 basic models in the past now have doubled. So I still find it a bit strange. Maybe it's cos all the smaller manufacturers and startups might have been at an all time high back in 2014 and has since all but shut down.

"Yes, Apple now has in-house chipsets with in-house CPUs and in-house GPUs."

Let's just set the record straight on this: Apple are standing on the shoulders of giants, and decades of work. More than a decade of labor and engineering went into Imagination's GPU architecture, and when Apple had learned everything they ended their business with Imagination.

Regardless of whether they made improvements to the GPU architecture, Apple literally sucked Imagination dry and left them to die and be sold off. Keep that in mind when you speak of Apple and their "innovation".

I'm not saying they're bad, but Samsung know how to tweak their hardware in their favor, they make most parts of their devices after all.

Mediatek SoCs are decent for the price, heating is usually because makers go cheap on the heatsinks to cut costs further.

Did you forget the TI OMAP chips? Those were mainly used in Symbian phones, but, were powerhouse chips of their era.

                          Ok...
Apple: Only needs in house modem and they are ready to be the first to compete against Intel with all.

Samsung: They need a small CPU Core, a in House GPU and they are ready since they have their own Modem.

Huawei: They need EVERYTHING... including modems. Similar to Xiaomi.

Qualcomm and Mediatek: They are OK, but Mediatek needs to liberate their drivers.

I was talking about what's popular between multiple phones and OEMs. That is what the article is all about.

Kirin is propietary for Huaway phones so other OEMs can not get their hands on one.

The only good option for OEMs that do not make their own chip is Snapdragon.

Bionic can't touch the SD soc after bionic warms up a little, similar to exynos that drinks battery juice under similar load.
