iPhone SE 32GB - a not exactly budget (i.e. 'budget') $349 USD
iPhone X 256GB - a quite extravagant $1,149 USD
Articles such as this one talking about a 'budget' ([I]their[/I] words) 2018 iPhone just mean the least expensive of the new series, not even Apple's lowest priced offering.

Not a fan of this trend, Apple made sense in 2016.
iPhone SE, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.
Mainstream, Expensive, Luxury.
Small, Medium, Large.
Now its;
Medium, slightly larger, Large.
Expensive, Luxury, Luxury priced.
....too confusing/not linear !

They are super cars and they have different classes for them too. Apple have only high flagship class and thats it. And while they have premium price they still have buggy updates that will drain your battery or cause other issues. Does not matter how fast they fix them or not the fact remains that they do buggy updates so you will buy new device from them.

When they launch a more affordable option, it's still intended for the premium tier where they position themselves. The article uses scare quotes in the title in recognition of this. It's a bit like a 'budget' Porsche; a Boxster or Cayman it may be relatively more attainable, but they're still pitched well above true budget offerings like a Toyota Yaris.

Issues over issues on older devices and pay over premium price to have a brick on your pocket that have heavy chance that updates will brick it even more

Apple - glad i never jumped on the hypetrain but change brand every year. I also don't care for gimmicks like cameras (yes, all cameras) and speakers. I only need reasonable headphone sound, 128gb+ rom and 4GB+ ram also fast charging and 2 days battery life for half the price of a flagship apple - right now got that on xiaomi, will see what i will get next, vivo maybe, doogee maybe. If we talk notch: do it like the v10 who had the first notch and make the display accessible via the user, there is no need on video/audio/gaming also not on whatsapp or any other chat client for a notch. Make the top bezel full-size, put in even more leds, cams etc. and leave the chin empty---upside down mi mix - best to do right now.

Not to mention that the whole phone design is still Apple's, but stolen by Vivo. Cheap iPX knockoff.

For example:
A person might have no fingers, but surely will have a face.
A person might have no fingerprint pattern, but surely have a face pattern.
Wet fingers cannot unlock your phone.
face id is more secure, with chances 1 in 1mil. vs touchid 1 in 50k

I agree that the bottom bezels on Android phones are stupid.
I have a feeling that a notch & the thin bezel at the bottom is a design patent that Apple owns.

The selfie camera on the NEX is as basic as it can be. They wouldn't fit all of the advanced sensors that the iPhone X and the next phones have unless the pop up camera is wide enough.

The notch on the new iPhones has a reason. That houses the advanced and miniaturized "Kinect" sensor that does things that only iPhone does smoother than Samsung and Xiaomi. I care about the advanced tech on the notch so it's reasonable. People who complained about the notch on the iPhone X and the possible XI doesn't deserve to be tech savvy. You don't understand the tech that only Apple and Microsoft can pull off for you, the masses!

Also it opts for a bottom bezel which could be useful space. Apple opts for an upper notch because the center of your notifications are is most of always useless anyway...
If nex was like the renders I would agree. In reality that fat bottom bezel ruins it.
Get it in your heads: the future is bezeless and Apple is closest to it (as it stands)
